crusing sailboat(of any size) as "bug-out" option for Zombie Apocalypse???

Here is what "bug-out" means here in USA. Doesn't seem to be an Euro equivalent.

    http://www.google.com/search?q=bug ...s=org.mozilla:en-US:official&client=firefox-a

    Problem I see is:

1)once there is even a hint of "**** hitting the fan" you can bet roads will be locked down with check points, official or 'pirate'.

2)all these landlubber "bug-outs" seem pretty static and sooner or later "they" will know where you and your goodies are and you will be surrounded.

I figure once out of the harbor you will have infinitely fewer humanoid enemies, and until you actually get far offshore to some already dangerous place like Haiti or Philippines, anyone you encounter will be either Govt or "good people"(fellow boat owners bugging out).

Generally the idea would be to leave until order is restored, which might be few weeks to a year.

This idea shown in the ending of "Dawn of the Dead" where they made it to a guys sailboat on a large lake.

For a period of time, the bad guys will still have fast power boats AND the last time I checked, most fiberglass hulls were pretty ineffective at stopping fast moving lead particles.

Kinda fun to imagine oneself surviving the apocolypse in a remote cove on a self sufficient wind driven craft instead of paying the bills each month. Not so much fun if it were really your only option.

When it gets 'that bad', have good friends in your neighborhood and use what you've learned while cruising (how to live minimally, use only small amounts of DC power, make freshwater, cook with your pressure cooker, etc etc).

    Dryfeet is right here.

Land is the only way to survive without money. You can't live on the ocean indefinitely without spending money. You can live in a remote spot on land without spending any money and living off the natural resources.

I wasn't worried about indef or money, just long enough

to show up in some still semi-functioning nation as a refugee/boat person.

Or even just hanging out in blue water off shore for a couple months with solar fresh water maker and rain catcher and sailing away from storms.

I can't imagine too many "bad guys" with fast boats once you get out of view off the Pacific coast (might be whole diff story around FL or gulf coast or even East coast). Figure they would be looting mansions or banks on land and not too interested in going far out to sea to investigate a frumpy old sailboat.

And I think most of the time they would give you the opportunity to shoot first, because they wouldn't have a reason to just sink you at long range, or even shoot you dead until they closed pretty close.

Now I just have to get the bugs sorted out of my potato cannon bazooka's ammo. I want it to be able to launch homemade rounds made out glass bottles filled with enough of something to deliver a fatal and instantly disabling hit to any civilian vessel and crew under 100ft at a range of at least 50 meters.

how about a munition that looks harmless but bounces off their hull, sinks then

explodes about 3ft deep, basically like a torpedo warhead effect.

I figure even a very small charge would both knock them off balance and sink any typical civilian craft quickly.

Make it look like you are 'throwing them a line'(thus surrendering) and have a line attached to something that looks like a floating buoy type thing (international orange).

Tell you what, lets meet up somewhere-I'll bring my rifles..the '.06 ought to do...and the 12 gauges with FF shot and you bring your spud gun and we'll have it out. :p

Anyways the best place for the zombie attack is on the BC coast. Packing basic foods -rice/beans/wheat/pasta freeze dried veggies and potatoes, plus cooking supplies and with gardening you can last years.

Supplement that with salmon,trout,herring,200 pound halibut, sardines, lingcod, mackeral, flounder, sole, crabs, prawns, clams, oysters, deer, moose, elk etc you can last forever.

A gallon a week of diesel,or none with solar panels, and the 500 gallons on board will last years.

No roads within 500 miles, more coastline than the entire US.

    The greatest survival plan...

Just in case if we need one, I will tell you on December 22 nd...

Oh heck, I can't keep it in any longer...

It is a land wehicle... very simple.. make the rear wheels much larger then the front ones.. the wehicle will be constantly on an angle, meaning just like being on a slope...you will not need an engine. It will want to roll on it's own.
As a matter of fact, you will be able to generate power with it... This is a true hybrid!!!

I am working on a similar plan for a boat. The Cp will be so high that the boat will be floating on an angle. Bow down and stern up...It will constantly move forward, like it's land brother...

There is a slight possibility that these ideas won't work. In this case, I can always make them run on H2O and recycle the exhaust... Cutting out the oil companies...

Another idea is to split atoms to get the needed energy.. unfortunately, I have not found a sharp enough knife to do the job with...

In case if we are wrong, it is still ok, I will be in good company.
We will all go to that warm place, in a hand basket!
It will be a familiar place for me, my first wife intruduced it to me. (Smirk)

Never mind, last night was my present (lovely) wife's birthday and our wedding anniversary also...
    We had a fun night....

    Rergards,

On the topic of the apocalypse, I think we can all agree that the chances of a "zombie apocalypse" is zero.

Dude you watch way too much TV. You basically described an explosive monkey's fist on a heaving line... If somebody wanted you dead to take your kit they're not going to give you the opportunity.

Apocalypse could be right around the corner when your ex goes after your assets. Logical to have a rig prepared that allows a fast getaway.

But the results of the exploding DEBT from Insane Spending in the USA will be interesting.

Although they are currently resisting, the German economy can be used to prop up the unproductive Euro PIGGS.

The size of the debt in the USA or even individual bankrupt states like California , does not include this option.
There can be no US bailout.

Inflation (the gov choice) works, till too many folks attempt to escape , so then currency controls and "price controls" are declared. The Gov collapses when currency looses 50% or more per month.

Simple Bankrupcy of the debt causes the politicoes to acknowledge the failure of their policies , not likely.
Although in Bankrupcy the gov. usually survives.

Most folks will attempt to flee large people population areas , if the food/electric/water supply stops.

A sail boat would be a good transport , well offshore , perhaps to a more agricultural country, where food will be wealth!
