21' Sutphen questions

The access door is likely to get at the sending unit and hoses. If you don't have a lot of experience with boats, then you should run in the opposite direction of this one.

Other Q is how many hours on that 90's Evinrude?

Bottom paint says maybe this sutphen has been used and in salt water more than trailer-kept boats.

 

if i was to buy this id want the tank fixed and it seems like a lot of work so im probably going to just pass on this one

 

Good idea to walk away. Most of the time a fuel leak also means fuel soaked foam, which isn't fun to remove.

 

Wow. It seems buying an entry level power boat is a much more difficult process than buying an entry level sailboat.

About the only problem I had buying it was finding out that the mast would dishpan in the cabin roof (deck stepped) when it was properly tightened.

No big deal... I just crammed a 2x4 in there for extra support.

Sure, the pintles broke off and left me without steering once and the outboard almost never worked (staring a long history of that problem that continues to this day for me), but it was a reasonable boat for $2500 with trailer included.

There just wasn't as much to look out for though: fuel tank issues, use of the boat in salt water, etc... etc... Much easier process.
