Alternative to marvelous Buccaneer 24

Thanks Gary, I thought it might be made along those lines. I've thought of a circular track but would need to add such a rail system, I would do the same on the car as the commercial products are ridiculously overpriced. I haven't played with kevlar in that application but think in might fray as well. If it were me I'd contemplate using sail slugs and calling the resulting narrow slot a performance feature lifted from Marchaj. Getting things down fast these days is important, it is good to see you can do the Tarzan parts.

Single Sid?

Gary, considering that I often end up single handing my 24, Sid looks quite an alternative. I really can't push the Buc hard by myself, and with a boat like Sid, I would not need to supply the crew with beer and sandwiches- a real advantage. Fast and simple is fun. B

 

Hey! I fantasize about Jane! I use a 5 to 1 tackle with an mountain rescue ascender and a bosun chair. When I swing from the rigging I like to be safe and comfortable....Sorry about the Tarzan humor I'll quit monkeying around. I've been felling trees and limbs for a week and the jungle is starting to rub off on me.

Are the Buc 24 plans still available?

 

The 3oz glass with squeegeed epoxy on a table is working fine; one more laminated table length and I'll have finished the wing bottom. Seems light and stiff but I've spent time cutting yet more holes in the skeleton, took out the diagonals which were of use only when setting up the trailing edge framing - so have saved a few kilos. Don't think I could have built any lighter using basic materials. Can still easily lift it up standing at the middle, around 55 kgs.

Not at the present, as we have moved house and relocated to a new area. Things are a bit "In the air" at the moment, but when I can see the light at the end of the tunnel and if the demand is still there I will produce them again.

 

Yes, laying up, let cure for 24 hours, then using back side of a hacksaw blade to lift half a corner, then gently peeling it off and rolling it up to move to wing for bonding. The table is a sheet of waxed plywood plus mould release for each laminated section.

The hull shape in plan view kind of reminds me of Flight of the Navigator, think of it as a space ship not an insect...
