You will enjoy dining in a room where the dead were floating? The ship sank in an hour for a collision with a rock, you put there over your family?

2" is more than I thought as well.

I don't think Italy will let that ship sit there at all and I also think that it can be refloated. Will it sell tickets again? I think so.

well, it's a Costa problem. For how things are going, I believe that on Monday evening, the ship is already sunk.
Today went down from 7 to 15mm/h!

    read:
    http://www.repubblica.it/cronaca/2012/01/20/news/costa_concordia_20_gennaio-28451776/

Tomorrow's expected storm....Maybe Sunday I go to see, if you let pass by.
also what saved the ship? The iron.
It should be sanded, cleaned (all to be dismantled), repainted, refurnished.
Think about removing the engines and put them in closed hull!
All installations are dismantled and rebuilt.
    The game worth the candle?
In my opinion, if they have not tied the ship, is not only due to technical difficulties.
And all these works made, however, would have a ship where no one would willingly.

To expound on DCockey's answer, passenger vessels follow the International Convention SOLAS.

    Regulation 30, Section 2
2 On passenger ships, an abandon ship drill and fire drill shall take place weekly. The entire crew need not be involved in every drill but each crew member must participate in an abandon ship drill and a fire drill each month (regulation 19.3.2). Passengers shall be strongly encouraged to attend these drills.

    Regulation 19.3.2
Every crew member shall participate in at least one abandon ship drill and one fire drill every month.

The drills of the crew shall take place within 24 hours of the ship leaving port if more than 25% of the crew have not participated in abandon ship and fire drill on board that particular ship in the previous month.

When a ship enters service for the first time, after modification of a major character or when a new crew is engaged, these drills shall be held before sailing............

"strongly encouraged" is a way of making sure the passengers participate. Passengers are required to keep their door open and the assigned crew knocks on their door, or even wait until they come out to participate.

    Doing " A COSTA".

Interesting how fast language adapts to new event s. At the marina is a cafe. A fashion cafe with pretty girls in movie star sunglasses sitting in the sun. The marina access road run right in front of the cafe. Guys cruise the road in their BMWs, slow down in front of the cafe and check out the girls.

This drive by is now known as "A Costa ".

Gian for you info , re your post nr 478:
security = when you are being controlled at the border or in an airport or by the police on the road
safety = when you are being protected against injury or an accident or against loss of life
I was a safety engineer, protecting my company against fire or explosion or accidents.
When i came to work i was checked by a security officer who controlled my company badge to make sure i was a company employee
PS : some of your posts are a bit tasteless and offending (example nr 498 and 554). Please stay polite in your remarks, you will get more attention then.

    Janneke dear,
first of all, a double thanks.
    - For taking the trouble to scan all my posts.
    - For correcting my poor English: safety and security in Italian (in common language) translate in just "sicurezza". But i'm sure u have understood what I want to tell...

I have for you a little note.
    - I write posts because I want to do it, and certainly not because I need attention: my posts do not want to be neither the Bible nor the Gospel. Search attention is a goal for u, bbut not for me. You're not just a free advisor, but also a little intrusive advisor....

    - A criminal defended to the hilt, especially from a newspaper, for me is the lack of honor. This should feel hurt ... but each has its own ethics.
    - I've to embrace your own?
    - Is my right to express my thoughts about general things: may it please or not.

    - Is not your right to expatiate on my opinions.
    - Is not your right to advise me about the end that my post must reach (more attention)
    - Is not your right to make judgments about my post.

You are not a moderator, you have no particular length of this forum, and want to impose your personal preferences and your goals to others.
You judge without having any right to do so.

Sorry, but in Italy there was one who wanted to impose on all what to say, how to say it and when.
We already had a Duce; Milan ended his career....and i'm Gian Milan;).

But something makes me think that Trolls should not be fed ...

Hello, my loyal reader ...with just a post!

Would people stay in a hotel where someone has died? How many people die each year on cruise ships normally?

Change the name, even sell to a different company. Passengers usually don't look up a vessels history, unless it's famous like Queen Mary!

One dead in a room is different from a room in which there has been a notorious massacre in the world.

You have to accept that many people, idem price, would not have a vacation on Concordia.
Selling tickets cruise and selling soap dishes is the same thing: all depends on the perception of the customer (advertising rule).

New Concordia, will not be ok.

Consider this: the cost of the structure of a luxury liner is 20% of the value of the boat.

The only reason to keep the hull, is the rush to get one ready.
    This haste is not there.

    It's so simple...
    :)

But why will not you accept that people are morbid and superstitious?
Why would a company that spends millions in advertising should go and fight against the windmills?
I really can not understand your point of view ...

You could be right - perception is all-important to sell tickets.
It's a shame to throw away so much labor. But far better ships have been thrown away I'm sure... maybe a new thread on that, if not too depressing.

If you any consolation, I think these cruise condos are aesthetically horrendous and are walking coffins.

They have weak hull, are unstable, in case of accident roll in few minuts, impeding the use of lifeboats!

All should be dismantled before it happens something really terrible.
