Here's the 'poor' student story, if the comments are true he's just a fool who destroyed his future there by making up this story, this will stick with him forever . . . .

    [IMG] 'Poor' Student, the movie.

    here some of the comments . . . .
    Cheers,
    Angel

    PS

Poster of the video has disabled the comment option and erased all existing comments. I couldn't find reliable confirmation whether the here quoted comments are true or not, lots of the same copies of them all over the web in which it's hard to find the original source with the evidence, if there is such thing in this case. If the comments are true they should have left them there, and if untrue they could have told so in a post sticked to the top of the comments, not sure how truth loving the vid's poster is. Same video is here too.

    PPS

Oh well, the comments are back on the page of above video, the two top ones here quoted seem to be copied from here.

    PPPS

‘‘the comments are back’’ - But now some them are disappearing there, including the ones here quoted . . . .

    You'd be surprised, GTO.

I taught an offshore sailing course with a student who was the main prosecutor in the Exxon Valdez case.

He was loaded, to say the least.

Well, he was a huge Obama supporter and an anti-large corporation guy. And... when I say, "supporter", I mean he paid a lot of money to get votes going Obama's way, including going to Obama's fundraiser dinners and stuff. Being poor isn't a prerequisite for being against large establishment things. Yeah, I was surprised too.

Did you know that a large percentage of wealthy people vote straight Democrat? Not intuitive either, huh?

Anyway, have you ever been hit with OC spray in the face?

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pepper_spray

"Pepper spray is an inflammatory agent. It causes immediate closing of the eyes, difficulty breathing, runny nose, and coughing.[3] The duration of its effects depends on the strength of the spray but the average full effect lasts around thirty to forty-five minutes, with diminished effects lasting for hours."

"For those with asthma, taking other drugs, or subject to restraining techniques which restrict the breathing passages, there is a risk of death."

Cat, GTO's point isn't the kid being wealthy and joining the protest, the point is making up a false story, very stupid too, the kid could have taken a real example for his protest . . . .

    Cheers,

    What Angel said I said .... :)

The Democrat party is as well funded, if not more, by millionaires, billionaires, and corporations as the republican party, that's pretty common knowledge. Which makes me suspicious of the whole "tax me more" campaign. After all, if having money truly offends these people so much, they are only a single check away - made out to the US Treasury Dept - from being an average joe.

As has been pointed out before, when someone has Billions x A lot in assets and a measly $1 million in income, a tax increase affects them very little. And this doesn't even take into account where in the world the assets may be invested. I don't trust either party to really clean up our tax system, due to the inherent system weakness of needing large campaign funds to be elected in the first place. That leads to the corruption that we see these days.

Here are recent examples of using pepper spray on non-violent protesters in the States.

I think they have it better in Tahrir Square!

Fine country this is... we think we have human rights, but there are actually relatively few. We only look good compared to really horrible places, but look pretty bad in compared to the average country.

    Disgusting.

When and were did this take place? You need documentation for something as outrageous as a policeman going up and down a line of kneeling people and dousing them with pepper spray. Those photos could have been taken anywhere.

They also look photo-shopped. In the first two scenes, no one is reacting to the mace, and neither the spray nor the can looks real. In the third photo, there is just a white spray coming out of nowhere (besides, when a mop gets face-to-face with a line of riot police, that is no longer "peaceful".)

The last photo looks like a picture of a homeless woman who just barfed. What is that supposed to prove?
Yeah, because what is getting sexually assaulted by a mob compared to the pain and indignity of pepper spray?

You have no idea what goes on in the average country. Of all of the rights that we don't have in this country, the right to form a mob to take over public parks, drive customers away from local businesses, vandalize businesses, block traffic, mob meetings of people that you disagree with to intimidate them and keep them from speaking, that right we can do without.

Some of your own boys, Dave.

UC Berkeley. Just today or yesterday. It's in all the news.

Yeah, sure... they're Photoshopped. What kind of delusional response is that? You see a clear picture (captured from a video) and you decide to insert your own agenda into the picture by making wild assumptions and making up wild background stories to suit your preconceived notion.

Pretty weak skills of observation, my friend. Hope you don't go to sea with these types of "make your own reality" things going on in your head. Yikes!

First two photos from UC Berkeley.

Photo of the woman getting it straight in the face is Seattle.

Photo of the elderly woman brutally sprayed is from another peaceful protest (Seattle).

I've traveled the world... many times. This kind of thing almost never happens. Here's how it goes down in Egypt. Big difference huh?

So in your world, if someone doesn't believe every random post he reads on the internet, but shows some skepticism, that qualifies as "delusional". As the man once said, "you keep saying that word. I do not think it means what you think it means."

What wild background stories did I make up?

For that matter, what wild assumptions? You do really not recognize the difference between suspending judgment and making assumptions? If anyone doesn't jump immediately to the same radical conclusions you jump to, that is the same making wild assumptions? This seems to be another word that you do not know the meaning of.

I've traveled the world... many times. This kind of thing almost never happens. Here's how it goes down in Egypt. Big difference huh?

It almost never happens here either. These Occupy groups managed to defying laws, threaten people, ruin parks, and vandalize businesses for weeks with little reaction. So finally the loyal Democrats who run these cities have started to think that the movement will hurt Obama's chances for re-election and they are starting to shut them down. When a mob defies the law, people often get hurt. That's not a loss of liberty, that's law enforcement.

the truth about the occupy movement

Here is a list of mayhem committed by Occupy mobs or individuals ordered by type.

I count four arsons, around 40 assaults, 1 fraud, 1 murder, around 15 rapes and sexual assaults plus an official policy of discouraging women from reporting rapes in the camp, 3 incidents of calls for political violence and murder that the crowd cheered for, ten acts of vandalism, many thefts and drug arrests, and many mob actions where they stopped traffic, prevented people from having meetings, blocked people in buildings, and otherwise behaved like barbarians.

And that's just what one person has covered. There are Occupy offenses that he hasn't covered such as the incident where a huge screaming mob harassed and frightened young school children.

What is amazing after all of this, is that the Occupy movement, which a socialist/communist/anarchist movement that hates middle-class Americans almost as much as it hates rich people still has much higher favorability ratings than the Tea Party.

The Tea Party formed around the same basic problem as the Occupy movement: that that rich people have "unfairly" exploited the rest of us. The difference is that for the Tea Party, what is unfair is for rich people to get government bailouts for their bad business decisions, subsidies, special tax breaks, and loan guarantees based on their political connections and lobbying. For the Occupy movement, what is unfair is people who work hard and risk their own money in investments benefiting from all of that hard work and risk and being able to keep the money that they earned.

It's a clear example of how much the press still controls opinion in this country and how much they support socialists, that the ugly, anarchist Occupy movement has a higher favorability rating than the peaceful, democratic Tea Party movement.

I go to the rallies all the time and Dave, your delusional. I have a job, own a small business, am 100% behind the non violent approach the protests have been taking thus far, and am pretty well informed concerning the medias failure to accurately report whats going on. The media for the most part is part of the corporate oligarchy that runs this place, of course they are going to side with the corporate interests and misinform the public concerning, numbers of protesters, actions of protesters, reactions by riot police and politicians.

Go to the rally and see for yourself, we feed the pore, offer free first aid, and provide our own security within the camp. Granted a lot of bums and homeless people, many of whom have mental difficulties and issues with drugs flocked to the camps, but maybe if the government and the shelter system had been doing there job, we wouldn't have ended up doing it for them.

If there is a crime problem because of the protests, its only because that the police department is wasting its time acting violently against peaceful protesters and taking its resources off of crime prevention. Or at least thats whats happened here in Denver. We've had a series of violent assaults going on for over a year, people getting there brains bashed in night and day. But they send the riot squad out night after night against a bunch of campers in a park. Brilliant strategy, as if no ones going to see through that one. who are they really protecting, clearly there primary concern is the corporate interests in government

Its ludicrous to try and paint the protesters as the hooligans when time and time again its the riot squads who are starting and perpetuating the violence

As you can clearly see from the picture below, these are not the dirty homeless bums the media would like to portray us as. The vast majority are regular everyday working class people who have had enough of the fascist cooperation of state and corporate interests at the expense of the public well being

Your being fooled by the media Dave, go to your local rally and see for yourself. Sat 1 pm there is always a march of some kind, sat about 7~9 maybe 10 ish the riot squads arrive, wait till about midnight, and start bashing heads.

Dave isn't being 'fooled' by the media. Instead, he's blindly rejecting anything it shows him that might conflict with his preconceived notions.

I could understand it if he said, "we're not getting the background and back stories we need to put those images into perspective. Since we don't have a clear picture of the overall circumstances, we shouldn't rush to judgment." Right or wrong, he would at least be making a rational argument.

Instead, Dave is simply denying reality: "that never happened. It was photo shopped, and all the eyewitnesses are liars." The perfect OJ juror.... his mind is made up, and no one is going to make a fool out of him by confusing him with facts.

Too bad they weren't off trying to be productive instead of trying to disrupt and getting in the way of normal people trying to get on with their lives.
If they were looking for work or sewing quilts or building boats they wouldn't have been there getting peppered.

There are sources and there are sources. The asault of the policeman spraying pepperspray on nonviolent protesters in Califorina that Catbuilder referred to has gone around the world and been shown to the public by media who pride themselves in checking their sources thoroughly. Her for example in the widely respected Norwegian newspaper "Dagbladet": http://www.dagbladet.no/2011/11/19/nyheter/demonstrasjon/pepperspray/19089928/
I wish all US-americans a near future whith a commonly accessible and well functioning health and educational system without being accompanied by the bizarre and disgusting conspiration theories that these right wing conservatives are puking up each time an attempt is made to distribute social goods!
    Regards
    Walter
