2005 nitro bay boat is this a design flaw?

He has a "pocket" One would assume that water will be directed up to the prop and the engine could then be raised higher then the bottom of the keel. Again I assume.

 

No Sir, This is not my first boat, I have a 19 foot V.I.P. Bass boat With a 150
Merc. for about 5 years, And I was raised on the river with father having many different boats, Drove them all.
I understand the tilt and trim for proper planing, All the way down at take off untill boat gets on top off water, Then Trim up for speed, But not to far as to cause blowout, over reving.

 

I appreciate all the input , I took a straight egde along with a laser level and messured exactly the distance of the antiventalation plate or cavatation plate
from bottom of the keel; It is exactly 5/16.

I allso looked at a lot of different boats while i was at the dealer today when I picked mine up.

Most boats with a pocket tunnel had jack plates in the position of the antiventalation plate about 2 -3 inches from the bottom of the keel.

 

What about the prop??????

 

Sounds like the motor is pretty well positioned on the transom, Just so I'm clear, the tunnel on the boat is actually more of an offsett of the transom say eight inches long into tthe hull and five inches tall?

Good to know that you've got a working knowledge of the boat.

Does the boat seem heavy? I mean is it sitting low in the water, do the deck scuppers drain okay? Just a thought, but if the boat had the bilge full of water or perhaps had water trapped in areas under the floor, that might explain the poor performance. I'd check the prop first though.

 

the tunnel or pocket as some reffer is acually cut into the bottom of the boat,if you took a reguler transom and acually cut a notch out of the keel approx. 6 inches high ,10 inches across, 8 inches deep and the fiber glassed straight to the front and then down.

I hope that explained it,The drain plug for the boat is inside the pocket at bottom of keel.

Prop is an alluminum 15 pitch not sure of size, Its pretty small compared to teh 150 mercs

I do know this is not the motor with the larger lower unit, It had that on it originally and it took on water at take of from 2500-3500 rpms and woulod never plain.

They said it was a pontoon engine and they appologised and replaced with the smaller lower end unit.

 

Yeah, just get a 90 hp outboard at minimum, that'll solve this issue.

 

What about the prop? Are you reaching 6000 RPM yet?

Boat Plained in about 7 seconds, top speed at WOT with me, my wife and a half tank of gas was 38 MPH at 5800 RPMS.

Boat only takes on water for about 2 seconds when coming of plain trimed up.
It does not take on any water NOW whith motor trimed down.

Going to take back to dealer and have them pick the motor up 1 more notch alway to the top.

Other than picking up the motor last time, they said they did make some type of adjustment to the throttel range.
