    Martin Fischer Development

    From Catsailing blog: http://catsailingnews.blogspot.com/2011/11/martin-fischer-flyingtri.html

Fischer is on a Mission: More speed reducing wet surface/drag but not ending on a fully hydrofoil platform like the Hydroptere or White Dragons for ie, Martin is having this concept now being developed on 3 different platforms (A-Class, Phantom Project and this new Trimaran).Mast will stepped soon, more info to come from Noumea.

This is one of the first tri's I've seen incorporating rudder t-foils and curved lifting foils on the amas. How about one curved lifting foil on the ama and a bi-foil arrangement on the main hull?

    Flying an A-Cat

Interesting post from Simon N on SA-particularly the highlighted portion which is exactly what Martin Fischer is attempting to facillitate for much longer periods:

"Landy is convinced by his little foils on the rudder and told me that on the way in one day, he managed to get the whole boat out of the water foiling on centreboard and rudder only. He thinks he went over 100 metres like that.

I looked at using a t-rudder instead of widening the boat but I believe that there are a lot of issues with that (I actually have the winglets sitting in my desk drawer!). Having 2 rudders adds a level of complication as does sailing the boat heeled. I am keen to try the small winglets Landy is using, not so much to gain lift at the rear but to give fore and aft stability.

As for the Scheurer boards, I get the impression that Landy thinks they still give too much lift. I hadn't realised that they are designed to be more flexible lower down, meaning they bend under load and become more horizantal low down, thus giving more lift area. Very clever, but as said, maybe too much lift. I think the other interesting debate with Landy was over where the boards should go in the boat. Compared with the Nikita, I have gone forward to the DNA positionm and am convinced this is right, while Landy wants to take his boards back! I think this is a function of the amount of boutyancy in the back of the boat. The more you have, the further forward you can go, although there is a limit and I have yet to see any evidence that going much further forward than the DNA is worthwhile.

    Mayfly

A bit of a rumor was posted on the above thread on SA that the Mayfly project had been discontinued: according to Martin the development of the boat and flying system continues........
