Finished the tubing deck railings on "T2" - now working on the flying bridge!

Making progress on "T2", the flagship of International Rescue Group, due to launch April 2012. For more information, see http://internationalrescuegroup.org - a very interesting site to visit for cruisers.

Providing first-line support and humanitarian aid to disaster-hit people, using boats to deliver food, fresh water and medical supplies to help coastal communities until governmental or large-scale relief arrives.

This is a chance to make a post-survival difference to people and communities who are affected by tragic emergencies where there is never enough support, in that critical period until government, military or large organization support arrives - which often takes weeks. T2 railings.jpg

    IT FLOATS!!!!

The Re-YAK-tion has splashed! After 15 months of work she finally got paddled for the first time today. Performance was about what I expected and a lot better than I feared. She's absolutely rock steady in primary stability (you can stand up in the cockpit). It's not the fastest boat with her large beam and wetted area, as well as a lot of displacement. On the other hand, she was designed as a cruiser and cargo boat for camping out of. Single biggest annoyance is that I made the cockpit base too wide and so I'm almost hitting it with my hands when I paddle. Unfortunately, fixing this would require a major overhaul, so I think I'll live with it for now.

I still have some trim work to do and the hatches need a little more work, but for a first boat I'm happy.

Thanks to everyone who helped with advice and encouragement.

congratulations Chipo your on the water again

As for me its one car totaled and one 7.3 international diesel with a great fuel system and everything else is falling apart. What did I do this weekend ? Took the injector pump out of the box ordered the steering gear box, cold air intake, headers, exhaust system, picked up a new drivers side door, wired the big tank pump to an in cab fused switch and tested the water separator for leaks.

can't wait till its done and neither can it

I suppose I should post before and after picks although Ive already slathered most of it in primer.

    cheers
    B

Put an $800 deposit on $1735 worth of plywood to start on this:

Finally arrived at 15 ft LOA, 7 ft beam, 9" or so draft (hull only)@ 1500 lbs displacement.

I'll be picking it up on the 1st

    Bridge railings in steel pipe

On T2, which I'm fitting out for International Rescue with some help from volunteers, we managed to tack up all railings on the main deck and flying bridge, hoping to have portholes cut, rudder and propulsion in ready for sandblasting and painting the entire exterior by this October, before it starts getting too damp.

Today went fishing with the boat - crappy winters day with the notorious Free State August winds that caught me on the lake with the open bass boat, wipping up some serious waves and dragging anchors.
Needless to say I had caught nothing....

    Maybe better luck next time:(
