    MotorSailers

    BRAVO :!:

....and for those that can't contemplate sailing only power, lets re-invent that marvelous hybrid...the Motor/Sailer

......sailing synergy/harmony, the motor taking over in the lulls and the rig taking over in the puffs.

It's already here and it's been confirmed as the most efficient propulsion for boats.

Yes but , in large doses even if it is in the right direction , it is a large amount of ca$h and work is required to go even displacement speeds.

And if you wish to go really fast ,vessel inversion , can be problimatic.

For many the free wind is in the WRONG direction adding more complexity and time to vessel transit.

Sailing rigs need not be that expensive...unless one is really trying to do it with the latest-greatess technics and materials. and even some of these hi-tech rigs and materials are likely to be less expensive than some of the other hybrid solutions.

I don't wish to offer any impedament to the developement of these other technologies, I just think the sobering reflection offered by Masrapido was spot on ;)

Imagine a nice cheap 35 ft boat that needs a 45 ft (short) mast and a suit of sales for voyaging.700 sq working .

Even with the cheaper + more efficient hank on sails a complete set main, stay sail and a couple of foresails (cutter) plus a storm "sweedish main / trysail.and the mast , standing and running rigging and wiring will probably be close to $20K.

Even from the Hong Cong sail guys , no window shade roller to purchase and sailor installed stay lock rigging ends.

Conventional low buck ocean sailing may not be very cheap.

Thank God for used boats!! RECYCLING is as Green as it gets!!!
