IMP History

OK - so no one can help me with the model on my boat I guess.

Anyway, I talked with my father-in-law and was told that IMP was never a very well run company even though they produced high-quality boats. They filed for bankruptcy 3-4 times over the years (costing my father-in-law money each time on outstanding parts bills). He said they closed up shop a few years ago (early 2000s) when they finally filed for bankruptcy the final time. If they were bought by another operation, he did not know about that.

Although this one is 27ft instead of 25ft. And it's not real specific on the engine. But maybe that might help you?

 

The Red Fish Boat Co.

IMP produced boats for the Red Fish Boat Co. of Clarksville, TX for a few years in the late '50's and early '60's. When Red Fish Boat Co. declared bankruptcy, Iola Molded Plastics (IMP) bought the molds and jigs, and began production under their own name.
The early boats made by IMP for Red Fish are now very collectible, some selling for buckets of cash. I'm in the process of bringing a 1961 15' Red Fish Shark runabout back into shape. You can view some "Before restoration" photos of my boat at http://myboatproject.3dup.net

Hi all
I havent replied in awhile. I have a 1976 IMP Aztec 20ft with a 190hp omcand I found another 302 to replace the block of my current motor and am currently searching for exhaust manifolds since the boat wasnt winterized. The more I look at it the more I want to change. I plan on seperating the seats so that instead of sitting back to back they swivel and face forward. I am going to weld aluminum frames that will allow them to recline and mount them on swivel poles so that they swivel and can face each other. I have already started to weld an aluminum frame for the back seat and plan to make the side compartments of the engine into built in coolers complete with drains. The biggest problem I am having is finding a way to pull the motor since the boat is on the trailer its very high in the air I may just go old school and use a tree. I am totally confident in my abilities to rebuild the engine yet I am concerned about the outdrive system. Does anyone have ideas on how i could test the outdrive without a motor in it? I was hoping i could just put it in gear and turn the drive shaft? I figured if it turned then it should be good but i have no experience with this system all suggestions would be appreciated.

Any info on 67 IMP Comanche?

I need any info I can get On a 1967 IMP Comanche. I recently purchased this boat but need to find parts. Please send me any info you can! I have not been able to find anything on this year and model! Thanks

 

Hiya again everyone! Well we bought the IMP and are counting down til Memorial Weekend. Can't wait! Just an update for Jake- she's a 1971 Navajo, 18 footer, Oldsmobile V6, newer upholstery and carpet. We're happy with our purchase. My husband took her out with his dad (who we bought the boat from) and tested it. Ran great! So we're planning a big trip with family next weekend. Should be great fun.

My 17 1/2' 1976 Imp Apache Is Still In Need Of A Hull Diagram (map) So That I Can Find Out Were All These Cavity's Go To And Why I Have Standing Water In One Compartment That Wont Drain Out.....anybody That Knows......or Could Help Me In The Correct Direction....im Desperate And Dont Want To Start Drilling Holes Until I See The Whole "picture" (the Hull Diagram!)

Did you get a response from that snail mail addy?? I kinda figured it wouldn't work out but hopefully was worth a try. I don't know how to help ya, sorry! I don't know where you would get a hull diagram from since IMP is out of business. I've searched online for info and this site was really the most that I've stumbled across. Good luck and if you find anything, pass it along to us.

ok boaters after a fair amont of research on the internet and when i say fair i mean hours i have finally found out alot about imp boats i too have purchased a 26 foot imp boat without no knowledge of them going out of business and have found out they went out of business in 2002 made great heavy sea worthy boats they were originally redfish but then went to imp which stands for iola molded plastics which is in iola kansas but to find used parts manuals and any and all information about these boats i finally was able to track them down to raymonds boats and motors operating somewhere in the ozarks and the lady that runs the business is charlene and you have to speak to lee in parts there number is 573-372-5115 oh and please say that steve from staten island new york referred you to them thanks and happy boating i hope this info provided to be use ful to all you imp boaters
