v drive output coupling

    does anyone know how i can check this safely and how to replace it , if i have to .

    You need to check:
    -The oil seal for leaks
    -Side to side movement within specs
    -In and out movement within specs
    -Out of flat within specs
    You will need a dial gauge and a magnetic or other kind of mount for it.

    hello and thank you very much for your help , i have a problem , when i back up my port side vibrates or cavitates a bit and then when i apply more thrust it smooths out , im guessiing the v drive out put coupling or it needs and adjustment , please advise me on what to do , thanx again

    Cavitation is a propeller problem. If you don't have the same problem with the starboard side and the propellers have the same pitch, it can be a damaged propeller. A worn cutlass bearing can also cause that vibration. If it only vibrates at a narrow RPM range in both forward and reverse, a bent or out of balance shaft would be likely.

    it cavitates when i reverse but if i give it a little gas it stops it only does it in reverse then when i shut down i hear i grinding soun like my v out drive coupling is off maybe the bearings in the drive coupling
