Alternative Decking Materials

Have just read an article in Southern Boating about some of the new Alternative Decking materials being used today and want to know if anyone has any experience with some of these materials.

Flexiteak, Esthec composite decking, and PlasDECK are mentioned.

Sounds like an interesting way to spruce up my boat.

Is it an easy project to cut and glue, or should I send in a template to have it custom cut to order?

 

In tropical climate it is better to choose real wood, or decking material made of cork like Marinedeck. The plastic ones get too hot too walk on.

I know that the different cork deckings are popular around the gulf because they also improves the insulation of the cabin.

If you ever have laid a carpet, you could do it yourself.

Yup...its hot...if you go plastic choose the lightest colour availble.. I see some nice stuff on the market now. Do some googling or visit the next boat show.

I do not have any knowledge of Marinedeck. Will look them up.

Have seen some of the home pages of the previous suppliers, and one of them shows the cockpit of an older Viking Sportfish that has been redone with the Cool Teak.

Very nicely done, as I own a 38 Bertram that could benefit with a new cockpit floor.

As I am now in the Middle East, I need a cool floor to walk on.
