This pic was taken in a race. I was sitting on the cabin top. Nancy is on the foredeck with binoculars, sighting the leeward mark. Jillian is out of sight behind the cabin, handing the spinnaker sheet. The boat is self helming. Happy days.

    search help- and not

I know that OS7, myself, and several other of our forum members have interest in finding plans for the "boat of interest"- BUT, please don't mention it by name in your posts. Every time someone calls it by name, our search engine functions go off, and we end up in a big loop of posts that still ends up back here!!! It is not helping! I am very aware of the two boats that have been mentioned, but I think the owners are not internet available/interested so I am trying phone and personal contacts. Slower, but I do hope to reach them without offending them. If you have something new to add, I do appreciate any help, and you can contact me by private message and not muddy the search functions. BTW, I am also in the "Texas" forum and already working that set of contacts. Thanks, Bruce

I'm aware of that problem Bruce. That's why I never used the B... word or the designers name in my posts.

    Cheers,
    Angel

    Thanks A

I am trying as time allows. I know of b2*s built in Canada, the USA, and Aus, but I am not aware of any in Europe or the UK. The plans were in English of course, but some might have traveled. I am not so good at euro searches. I don't know how many plans were sold or boats completed either, about the time the larger boat came out, the US was in a recession and really reduced building and boating activity. By the time it was over, fiberglass had taken over in the US and very few wooden boats were built or sold until the last few years. B

There's one in NZ, maybe more, was for sale a couple of years ago, vaguely remember either Dunedin or Lyttleton, South Island. Greg Walters (jamez) is the kiwi expert on those size type boats - he'll know the facts and history.

No expert, just spend far too much time online when I should be boatbuilding

The B*8 Gary is referring to is Overdrive. A mate owned her in the late 1990s after buying her in bits as an uncompleted do-up. She'd evidently been stored in a farm shed north of Auckland for some time. He put her back together and sailed her for 2 or 3 years or so then sold her, when she went to Christchurch. She was for sale down there 2 or 3 years ago for mid-20ks IIRC. Looked in good nick from the pics. I don't know of any other 28s in NZ, but I'd be surprised if there were no others built here- Crowther tris were very popular in NZ back in the day. Several B24s, B33s and other Buccs and Krakens of various sizes were built and a bunch of them are still around Auckland. I can think of at least 2 large (prob 38-40') Buccanners sitting on moorings in the upper harbour growing mussels.

    Growing mussles

So not only do they sail well but they provide nourishment too!;)

    Hi,
sorry to ask a silly question and its possible that I overread a post in this thread...

But has anyone contacted Brett Crowther directly if the design Office has a copy of the 28 plans?

Even if they are not for sale, perhaps they are friendly people there and make a copy for you.

    Best Regards, Michel

Jamez mentioned this boat in post#38.

The one on the hard CT mentions has both amas gone on street vieuw...

Here some some screen shots looking south over the fence from: Magnet Street, Dunedin Central, Otago, New Zealand.

Same boat..? don't know, we're only two years later now... if someone wants to know more about this boat... ask Otago Yacht Club for the owner.

Some owners of old DIY boats still have a set of the original plans...

    Good luck!
    Angel

PS - don't know the date of the Google street view... could be somewhere in 2010..??
