Army Tug

    This is my favorite modern small tug. It will be a great inspiration for a live aboard kind of motorboat, with a lot of character.

    Well its kinda cute, but I can't see it as a liveaboard without some serious mods. For instance: tugs are all engine(s) and big prop(s). This is not a fuel efficient combo. Powerful yes, but fuel efficient, no. However all that machinery down below is what keeps it from rolling over from all that superstructure. If you repower with something less guzzling and less weight then you would also have to reduce weight topside. That would of course reduce living space.

    I like long and thin tugs, with plenty of deck space for bicycles, skiffs, picnic tables.....

    No, you right, not to transform a Army Tug, just take some inspiration on the general shape. They are extremely wide and strangely enough they are shallow draft.
    the Army tug purpose are quite different than the Navy tug.
    Can be a start for a designer IMHO

    Dont often see tug restorations....Germany , Netherlands seems to be the only place were old workhorse harbor tugs are coveted.

    Year after year I see a beautiful tug abandoned in Olbia, Sardinia. Its a Riveted iron harbour Tug...Very beautiful, but nobody loves her.

    That army tug is one of the ugliest tugs Ive ever seen.There are far prettier tugs out there.JMO Clown

    It is not a beauty contest. Her measurement will not be chosen by Donald Trump of course. :D
    Just an interesting inspiration.
    And in theses small size I find her with some very usable feature.

    Wouldn't a Prigrim Trawler or a Great Harbor Trawler make more sense?

    Genuine tugs...even if impractical, have a strong purposeful presence that can never be matched by a yacht.
