New Hydrostatic Software Program (Flotsam)

Has anyone else been able to successfully do the Tutorial?

Hmm... I've never seen it do that. It almost looks like the DXF files are corrupted. Try opening the DXF file in Notepad. It should look something like this...

The program looks for the keywords...
VERTEX, POLYLINE, SEQEND and 3DFACE.

I've attached the two data files again in case they were corrupted somehow.

 

Just a thought... Does Greek use a comma (,) in a floating point number. I.E....

PI = 3,14159 or PI = 3.14159

If so, try exporting a hull out of DelftShip using the DXF 3D options and try loading it in Flotsam.

If that doesn't work, upload a DXF file you have exported and let me see it.

You're 50000 clue help me solve it. I re-created it!

Yes, its your regional settings. But you shouldn't have to change it... The DXF files in the Tutorial exported by me here in the U.S.A. use "." for decimal seperator.

If you edit the DXF files supplied, and do a global replace of "." with "," and save them, you should work correctly.

I'm assuming that if you export your own DXF files in Greek and import them into Flotsam, you will also be fine. If not, I'll need to add some code to be able to handle both conditions. Please let me know.

Or if there is such a concept as interenting in your country, I can say I'm truly sorry. I don't charge a rent for international copies... its free to people in China too.

Unfortunately, being a handicapped (only know one language) American it may have some language issues with Chinese. As we know it couldn't handle Greek flawlessly. Chinese is Greek to me also!

Not that I'm looking for praise... but, I am wondering...

To this point, I haven't even heard if ANYONE has successfully done the tutorial. Does Flotsam have any merit or is this functionality already common in some other program(s)? Is it too hard to use? Have you found an issue? Has it helped you with a boat design? Do you have a suggestion?​

... I am wondering if I wasted my time putting a user interface on it for others to use. Will I upload an updated Flotsam? Will I put another program out on another design aspect or just keep the development mules for myself?

Well... Imperially handicapped, I guess.

At least there is one person using it... and found a bug. It seems I had a metric conversion calculation wrong.

Fixes/Enhancements
(1) I've fixed the metric bug.
(2) Have added some logic to help some converging issues. When you start trying to fly a hull (say a catamaran) sometimes the conversion gets into an infinite loop. The additions help re-focus the conversion and let you know its going on... so you can stop it yourself. Typically it means the boat was going to tip over anyway. So back off on the loads and try again!

Note: The old version at the top of the thread is 1.0.0.1. This one is 1.1.0.0

 

I downloaded the file and it installed fine.
and i import the dxf file add the force,unto here is ok
when i click analysis , the flotsam analysis is always run run run run ……
i think it is too many attempts made for theis increment .

The troubles you are having... is it in running the tutorial or using your own DXF files? If it is on your own files, send the DXF and FLT files to me either as an attachment here in the forum or as a private message and I'll take a look.
