    Hey Gonzo
whats that bit about ignition protected
I wasn't aware of a difference between an alternator for a diesel and an alternator for a gas engine

Here are a couple of pics, kinda hard to get a good shot in my shop. The alternator is not a marine type that is sealed to prevent an explosion in a true inboard.

    Lowhorsepower,
Did I read in another post that you change the engine and alternator out? If so do you have any specifics go howl and why? Thanks, Mike

    Kudos

Kudos to you sir!!! Nicely done, very professional looking and the fact that you recycled and saved an old boat gets you double kudos!!! It won't end up rotting on a mud flat somewhere for someone else to clean up.

    Lowhorsepower

I'm in the process of building a home made boat and I'm considering using a briggs for power. I have two 12 horse and an 18 horse available these are all vertical shaft and I plan on using the lower unit from an outboard. I'm also considering using an electric outboard on the front for silent running and emergencies if a failure would happen with the gas engine. I'm thinking of a motor from a golf cart for this. I've already built the lower unit consisting of a tube bored to fit two tapered bearings for thrust a mechanical seal and a chain drive up through an enclosed tube that runs in oil. To keep the electric motor cool I'm thinking of wrapping it with copper tubing and pumping water through it.
What size is your boat and do you know how much it weighs?

    Nice work,
    Dave T
