Welded Aluminum Shallow Water Boat

Ah, an area where I have some expertise. You're right on with the 5 sided tunnel. We have one on our 15' scooter and it works excellent. One other thing to consider is building a motor "notch" as shown in some of the above Texas boat photos. This pretty much negates the loss of bouyancy caused by the tunnel. Our 15 will float in 4 to 5 inches and get up and run in 8 to 10 with one guy aboard. A low water pickup would bring the running depth down a couple inches as well. The tunnel should be about 2/3 the total length of the boat, (short tunnels don't work as well) starting from flush with the V and ending about 8 inches high or so, the 5 sides resembling a wide upside down U, say 10 to 12 inches wide. You could go a little narrower with the smaller motor, our 15s run 75 to 90 HP. Also depending on your beam you may want the tunnel a bit shorter (height) as the aluminum boat will float shallower than our 'glass ones. Like Pontiac says. "Wider is Better!" Our 15 has a 78" beam.
