A 16' boat, and a 40 horse outboard, and a trailer for $400.00?????????????????????????????????????????????????????????? What was your question again? YOUR GRANDFATHER!!! Grab it and RUN. Get that sucker cleaned up real good and go enjoy.........................Let me know if you do not want it. I'm in Knoxville. Is it a wood hull, or aluminum?

It looks like it's all aluminum, excepting parts of some of the interior furniture? Just replace the plywood.

My grandfather has a similar but smaller boat. It is a really trooper. It has been kept outside uncovered for longer than I've been alive, and there is nothing wrong with it.

Buy it and keep it in the family. It'll last forever. Your kids will use it after you.

Got to agree with the other posters.

Clean it up, grease the wheel bearings, check the tires and lights. On the engine. Replace the water pump impellor, change the lower unit oil, put some light oil in the cylinders before you pull it through, clean the plugs, clean out the carburetor bowl. Crank it through a few times to find out if it has spark. If it does, put in some gas and try it in the water.

The motor alone is worth 3 times that. Snap it up while you can.

Well the motor has some wires that i see are messed up around the tiller arm. it has electric start. does the interior wood need to be marine grade? also i have a unknown evinrude motor. can't find the plate on it any where. is there any other way to indentify it?

clean out the debris and you'll have a better idea. an hour cleaning it up will probably show you if its diamond in the rough or weather to abandon and move on.

Your transom is probably aluminum sheet over plywood. You asked about it specifically so is there some question of it's integrity? I have replaced the transom in a smaller version of that style boat...it wasn't too difficult. Your mileage may vary.
