    Hi there,
I am curious to know how reliable are rebuild cores and if I should go for it or not?

I leave in Europe and here is damn hard to find good used marine engines but the other day I have seen on Ebay many companies selling rebuild engines at good prices. I have asked the seller about shipping to Romania and he gave me a quote of 1.200$ for two Yanmar 6LPA-STE. He asks $25,995.00 for the pair so that would be about 26.000 shipped.

For that price I could buy here one new VW-Marine 256hp V6 diesel.

Anyone here with experience in rebuild engines? What are the downsides and the bad things about this engines?

    Thanks,
    Daniel

In my experience it all depends on the shop that did the rebuild.
A properly rebuilt engine is as good as a new one,I would be most comfortable
dealing with a shop that I could visit. But machining is my trade and you can tell a lot about a shops quality by looking around and talking with the personal.
I would research the shop a lot before I entered into a transaction for that amount of money and at that distance.
This is just my opinion, I hope this helps.
    Steve.

I don't know what you mean you live in Europe so cant find second hand diesels.???

The place is flooded with Mercedes.

The Yanmar 6lp series are Toyota 1HD and the 4 valve head 300HP model had tremendous trouble with dropping valves, but Im sure the valve seal problems are now long gone.

However if it were I,-- I would buy a local engine and overhaul it locally.

You really don't want to be calling on a guarantee at the other side of the world with a heavy engine.
