    Hy Everyone!

I`m fairly new to all this boatbuilding stuff, and i have a question(What a surprize:))
I have a boat design in my head. It`s a 33ft speed boat. I would like to know how much it would cost to take my design to an enginier (to refine my hull shape, calculate the spead of the boat, draw in the engine supports, etc.) and get back a technical drawing. It would cost like 2000-3000 or more, like 20.000-30.000?

    Thank you for your answers:)

It depends a lot on how much detail you want to start with. Also, if you just need the lines faired or other calculations done. For example, what kind of engine and drive combination. Location of machinery and tanks, interior design, etc.

Thank you gonzo for your reply. What you wrote is preety much what i need exept the interior design. I have the desine, i just want to know how much would it cost to make a technical drawing from it that we could use as a guide during the build.

The interior design is very important because of the weight distribution. That will determine where the machinery and tanks go to balance it out. Target speed is very important too. Everything will revolve around it.

Never thought the interior design is so important in such an early stage. I think an averege speed boat interior would do it. Nothing fancy, maybe a little higher quality materials But the layout should remain the same. Boat bench around with a small table in the center and a small bathroom would be nice:)

You need to define average. Speedboats are sensitive to weight location and totals. What materials are you building the interior of? There is no real average. From your posts, seems like you need a complete design based on a sketch. The prices vary a lot depending on the country too. Your starting point should be a list (SOR) of all requirements including target speed. Then you'll see if it is possible to comply with all of them or you need to make compromises.

Under interior i meant a bedroom in the bow, sorry. I would put the same thing on the deck, exept the bathroom. I`m not sure about, the materials. Maybe some mahogany decking, but i`m not sure about the rest. The hull would be carbon fibre, so that would be light.

To makes this more clear, you are asking for a complete design. Technical drawing only means that you have all the designing done and need someone to do the drafting. I reiterate, the target speed is where the whole design will revolve around. It determines everything, from displacement to size of engines, which determines space left for interior, etc.

Usually the designer will check feasibility of Your design, and modify it as approptiate. No professional will do only technical design is the concept is wrong.

Not unless you explain what is that you want. Let's start by target speed.

The top speed would be around 55 knots.

OK, so we are looking at maybe 1400HP total. Gas or diesel?

    PAR Yacht Designer/Builder

I don't know Gonzo, 1,400 HP might be a little excessive. I think I could do a nice 55 knot, 10 meter power yacht for about 1,000 HP without making it so light, it breaks up on the first Beaufort 4 conditions it encounters. As far as price, you need to contact a designer and work up a SOR. Prices will range from 5 thousand (USD) for a relatively unknown, inexperienced designer, to to as high as you like, depending on experience, notoriety, level of detail required etc. Your post suggest suggests a complete lack of hydrodynamic understanding, so the best advise anyone can offer is to contact a designer or NA and discuss your needs.

    TheNewbie,

Gonzo and PAR are very knowledgeable and experienced guys and if you give that job to them, you'll be in safe hands.
However, I have to say (sorry guys) that there are also a few NA and YD guys from Romania in this forum. Maybe you can try to contact them too, and see whether they are interested and how much do they ask for the job.
Here are some names, each with a link to their page:
The advantage of working with people in your area is in the fact that you could meet them personally, shake their hand, talk to them, evaluate them, and communicate with them in your language. However, I cannot say anything about their level of expertize, contrary from what I could gather when it comes to PAR, Alik, Gonzo, Tad, Eric Sponberg and some other folks here.
    Cheers!
