software from scientific article

    Hi!!

    I found a very interesting article on science direct and I would like to obtain the software written by the author of the article.. Is it possible in your opinion??
    I don't know if is more convinient to write to him that i'm a student or a private naval architect..??

    What do you think??

    Yes. Especially if you offer to pay for it.

    Try the truth.

    When you write to the author, try using one question mark so he or she doesn't immediately dump your email in the trash.

    I think that if I tell him that I am a student he could give me only a little part of the software..

    Most software doesnt work like cake, you cannot have a slice.

    Which software are you talking about anyway?

    Are you talking about "NSRDC Ship-Motion and Sea-Load Computer Program" ? If that is so a preliminary search showed it is for cdc6700 series computers, a mainframe. I hope you have one in your university, you may have to apply to the head of your naval engineering faculty to get that installed on the mainframe.

    Did you got the paper afterall? The teacher that wrote it works on my Uni.
