I spend an hour or two a week in book stores, mostly reading magazines I’m too cheap to buy. The largest in my area actually has a nautical section for books. Half the books are picture books, fun to look at while I’m having coffee but I wouldn’t take them home. Of the rest many have to do with sailing, and knots, lots of knot books. A few are about design, construction, or history. It’s these few that I look for. I have most of them at home, but once in a while a new one comes out. The other day I spotted, All About Powerboats by Roger Marshall, must be new because I’ve never seen it before. I’m in a hurry and they only had one so I bought it. This is what I think of it.

First, it should be titled, All About Fiberglass Powerboats. There is no mention of the many other construction methods in this book. Roger seems to be knowledgeable about powerboats but he might be just a little tilted towards glass. He covers a lot of subject matter in a 150 pages. It is easy to read and understand. Most subjects are only lightly discussed. Not what you would expect from an All About book.

1-10 I would give it a 5. If I would have had time for coffee I would have saved 20 bucks. :)
