newbie here would like to build a 15 ft open boat

    would be nice to make a couple good 5/8" thick planks out of 2x8x16'

    Knot-free to avoid embarrassment ! Will 16 feet be long enough ? Kiln-dried ? Air dried ? Species ? How sawn ( rift, etc.) ? I'm getting a migraine........lol.

    About the only two species available in this area ( Australia ) that come to mind would be Meranti or Douglas Fir ( called "Oregon Pine " here ), it is damned hard to get decent knot free timber in long lengths here. Fir is very strong, but I don't know how well it will bend.....without steaming.,

    Joiner ? Continous lengths seems the way to go.
