hi thrust outboards

I bought new and installed 2 - 9.9HP 4 cycle Hi Thrust Yamaha Outboards on my Mac Gregor 36 Sailing Catamaran. They were excellent at moving her along at 10 knts +

These are not your fathers outboards. They are geared for thrust and have large diameter large blade area props for thrust rather than speed.

Mine worked very well and were very reliable. I would not hesitate to use them for the application you describe.

I seem to have generated quite a few responses. This forum is one of the most informative places on the net. I am now happy that a BF 9.9 will do as a kicker and also as a river engine. I have gone off the idea of 2 60 HTs. If I do decide to go outboard as my new main further down the road, it will be something like a 150 or 175.
I know all the arguments for and against outboards v inboard but I would want to buy a new inboard if I went down that road and that would see me shelling out something in the range of £15000 with all the hassle/expense of fitting it. I have seen new outboards in my power range at about £10-11k. I would have to do quite a few miles to spend the difference in fuel.
