No conformation from Crag yet. Crinan is obviously right, pictures confirmed that. Let's for the time being assume that the second part of the question was about the influence of the size of locks on the development of the size of the Clyde Puffer outside type. So let's put a new one up.

    Here it is....

    Questions....
Q 1) Name of the body of water
    Q 2) Name the city

    X1.jpg - X2.jpg - X3.jpg

After Q 1 & 2 are answered we move on to the next quest.

Bonus questions (just for the honor) are....
B 1) Name, lenght, type and era (± 50 years) of the original of the oldie (the shown one is 1:1)
    B 2) Exact spot of picture 1
    B 3) Exact spot of picture 2
    B 4) Exact spot of picture 3

    Good Luck!
    Angel

    PS

Just to make sure that's a full size double deck real train...

    X4.jpg - X5.jpg - X6.jpg

Here she is in another city, second pic shows the 'bridge' while afloat, on the last pic her holiday is over and she's back to work.

Well, we are in the Netherlands, as the train tells us.

Is dat een Leeuw aan de Kasteel?

Could be Prins Wilhelm or Batavia, the replica in picture 3.

    No it´s Prins Wilhelm.

That's a Voskhod hydrofoil, which operate on the North Sea Canal, amongst other places, linking to Amsterdam station.

The inverted square cone concrete structures behind the old ship look familiar. I shall work on them...

    Sorry - was distracted.

Yes it's Crinan and the maximum size of the locks in the Crinan Canal was the limiting factor on the design of the Clyde Puffers that headed up the west coast of Scotland. Their very bluff bows and dumpy look was to maximise their load carrying and hence profitability.

The Crinan Canal wasn't just a short cut, but eliminated the need to weather the Mull of Kintyre with it exposure and tidal overfalls. There's still some violent stretched of water north of the canal, but they're more workable than the Mull.

The only downside to the Canal was it freezing in winter as it's fresh water.

The adoption of the design of the Clyde Puffer by the Admiralty as a VIC was a bit of pragmatism rarely seen these days in the defence procurement world. Today the specification would fill to six volumes, the budget would over run by millions and the war would be over before the prototype was delivered.

The Prins Willem replica was destroyed by fire on 30th July 2009, and is under reconstruction now, I think, so the picture is presumably pre July 2009.

Richard - could you enlarge on the A10 tunnel reference? Is that the concrete structures, or...?

    No problem Crag!

Similar thing happened with the development of the Spits...
    By 1879 law in France the locks in the canals had to be at minimum L 40 m, W 5,20 m, D 2,20 m.
The Spits is designed to fit in there with a load carrying capability as large as possible. So they look like this...

Spits - Notre Dame de Seez.

    Spits - Typhon.

Spits - Neptunia entering lock #29 in the canal de Sambre a l'Oise.

    Cheers,

Edit: Train pic is from 2005. Added a clickable Google Street Vieuw screen shot of that spot. Less trees now and no train so you can see the traffic signage on the A10.

You're doing well Tiny & Richard..!!

But the Voskhod is not at the tunnel A10 - North Sea Canal (named Coentunnel) but the train is right above there.
I'll give you that one for your excelent effort so far..!!
The train picture was taken from between the Coenhaven and the Petroleumhaven looking NNE.
Here a 'Google street vieuw' link looking NNE from the T Petroleumhavenweg - Westerhoofd to the spot of the train.
There's exelent 'Google street vieuw' of Holland, you can find almost everything there that's visable from public road.

    Let's summarize:
    - the Netherlands = a right start by Richard..!!
    - ‘‘Q 1) Name of the body of water’’ = North Sea Canal = right answered by Tiny!
    - ‘‘Q 2) Name the city’’ = Amsterdam = right answered by Tiny!
    - ‘‘B 1) Name, lenght, type and era (± 50 years) of the original of the oldie (the shown one is 1:1)’’ Name = Prins Willem = right answered by Richard!
    - - - - Lenght..?? - - Type..?? - - Era (± 50 years)..?? - - = - - in search...
    - - - - Right about the photo date Tiny! pre 2009, it's a 2005 pic.
    - ‘‘B 2) Exact spot of picture 1’’ = back in search after a mistake...
    - ‘‘B 3) Exact spot of picture 2’’ = right above the Coentunnel (tunnel A10 - North Sea Canal) = given to you for your excelent effort so far..!!
    - ‘‘B 4) Exact spot of picture 3’’ = in search by Tiny, others invited to join!

Q 1 & 2 are answered well, so you can put up a new one Tiny!

Or, if you like, you can all together try to answer the rest of the bonus questions first. For the honor of yourselves and this thread..!!

    Good Luck!
    Angel

Edit: Added a Google Street Vieuw screen shot of the spot of the train.

Cannot go further here, my internet connection is sooo slow, it takes minutes to open this page.
Maybe better tomorrow when I am closer to Greece again.

Will be the next round than, though.

That's why the sreenshot above next to the train. That's a normal pic. You can click that instead of the Google Street Vieuw link.

But that pic only makes that spot visable, though. Unfortunatly It won't help you to search if your connection is to slow.

Anyway, happy sailing! That can be even more fun than this game..!!

    Good Luck!

Picture one does look like a road tunnel emerges from under the canal. I shall search and see if I can find it.

Ok, I think that picture one, with the hydrofoil, is the point where the A9 emerges from under the canal, looking North. This is based on the concrete parapet with the road (Kanaalweg) running just behind it (with a little white car on it) the position of the grassy bank joining the concrete parapet, and the layout of the feeder road which joins the main dual carriageway in the distance. There is a great deal of forshortening in the photol

Struggling with the Prins Willem picture with the two concrete towers. I can't locate the towers. Suburban housing on the bank (I presume of the North Sea Canal, lots of traffic on it, but?...) Sun angle suggests it is *probably* the North bank.
