They do power cats and workboats that are used in some pretty harsh environments.

The 300-gallon fuel tank spec. would have to become 2x150 in a cat, one in each sponson feeding its own motor. Power cats are great boats, provided a few design details are adhered to. First and foremost, the height of the tunnel comes in to play at certain angles to a sea, mostly the 90 degree arc centred on head on. Too low and they can bang pretty bad in these situations. More recently a full length narrow skeg down the centre of the tunnel called a wavebreaker has become the fashion, how well they address the problem is debateable. Designers like to keep the tunnel height low for stability reasons, but also because cabin structures look high and less aesthetically pleasing, with a high tunnel. Experience in Australia suggests symmetrical sponsons give more predictable handling characteristics. Your engines also should be the longest shaft length available, as even with relatively bouyant sponsons, powerheads can get uncomfortably close to the waterline, at rest, stuck out there on the corner of the boat. Another thing to consider is the salt water mist that is generated by these boats that swirls around the engines underway, it has been known to shorten the life of outboards as it gets sucked through them.

I would say our design office possess World's foremost experience with such power catamarans. Over 20 different powercat models launched up to date, some of them built in dozens. See this also.
