Can't be wrong. I said... ‘‘ Don't know what your item is. ’’

    Good Luck!

Just took a Virtual Tour (scroll down) on a guppy. Didn't see your device, so I still don't know.

    Good Luck!

Excuse, I took the virtual tour on a AGSS-569, not a Guppy.......

I think your device is from a Guppy class sub.

    Good Luck!

"Sun compass"? We sometimes call them "sundials".
Also; "rough weather they would fare as well as any other plane trying to land on the water.
since the advent of the helicopter they have become irrelevant."
    - Why do you present your guesses as fact?

Thanks Angel, it was indeed a Viking sun compass, probably the type used when sailing to Iceland, Greenland and America :)

    Torpedo Data Computer (TDC)

New teaser is a bit to soon here Wardd..!! - The old one was not solved yet . . ;)

OK, so it's on a WW II US Fleet Type Sub..., lets take a look on one of those....

    here's the USS PAMPANITO (SS-383)

....and there it is..., an interesting piece of equipment..!!

it's a Torpedo Data Computer (TDC), an analog computer, of about 1,500 lbs. A big machine..!

(this^ is only a part of it)

Here's a lot of info about the TDC on the USS Pampanito.

And here are links to the manuals in PDF format.

    ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I have a nice new teaser but I'm also happy with the one Wardd has put up above as I have very little time to follow up the responses at the moment. So we save mine for later . . :)

    Good Luck!
