    Here's a quote from YachtSurvey.com

    It got me wondering, wat is "linear urethane"? Some sort of paint or?
    Cold it really replace Gelcoat and could it be used in the same way , i.e. applying in a female mold befor the laminating begins?

    "It's time to give up on gel coat and start painting boats with linear urethane like Hatteras does"

    I'll look for a link to hatteras website, but if anyone has it post it here please.

    BTW Yachtsurvey.com has some useful info

    I believe the linear urethane Hatteras uses is called Awlgrip, and is applied in a post-molding application. Hatteras, I believe uses a sandible gelcoat for the in mold, gives it a light sanding, then applies the Awlgrip. The "linear" term, I guess, means the molecular structure is more linear than crosslinked, meaning it will be more durable and flexible than standard gelcoat.

    hello;

    I'm in the marine paint and epoxy business.
    There are lots of different urethanes and polyurethanes, and several kinds of linear (poly) urethanes. Awgrip is a linear polyester polyurethane. So is LPU 100 by progressive epoxy.

    the polyerster polyurethanes are probably the best of the urethanes...
