out drive trouble (volvo aq 200)

    i have a 1967 donzi 16 with a volvo aq 200 out drive and i was driving the other day and it started not wanting to go in to forward drive but reverse was fine if i throttled up it would go into drive with a clank is there some kind of adjustment needing to be maade or what help me out here please??????it hasent been ran in 27 yrs i have replaced some bearings and changed the oil and also replaced the shift cable i took it out for the first time and it was all good at first but then started acting up??????? whats going on here i replaced the stern bearing and the uppermost out drive bearing and then the shift cable?????some times it would work rite and others it would not so im not sure about the remedy for this????

    If you replaced bearings without the proper tools, it is probably not set properly. The crush tube may be a problem too. It sets one of the spacings. The cone clutch may be worn or galled. How did you adjust the shift cable? The control box may be a problem too if it has too much play.
