Hi, would it be possible to build the buccaneer 24 from 4mm strip cedar as it is supposed to be lighter and stiffer than ply.
    Thanks Chris

    Hi oldsailor7,
I can't wait to get the buccaneer plans, I have read some of the other buccaneer owner posts about the speed and being able to beat many of the farrier F boats. The design must of been ahead in its hey day.

    Hi oldsailor7,
Do you know what the fastest speed that anyone has recorded in a buccaneer 24, I've read in the small trimaran post that after 18 knots it gets a bit hairy, but I think if you have a small tri that is capable of 18 knots then you are doing well.

    No.
    Cedar is too soft.
When it is used for strip planking it is 6, 8, or even 10mm thick.

Besides to use any form of strip planking on the B24 would negate the concept of its assembly. You would have to erect the frames on a strongback, with all the extra cost and time consuming labour that entails.

    Kiss

Sailor9, Use good! light ply, follow the plans and possibly use a modern rotating rig such as the Corsair MkII's and you will have a very capable boat- quickly. Crowther got it right for most builders. B

    another 28?

OS7, I saw a picture of a Buc 28- "Whimsy" on the NWMA (nwmultihull.org) site owned by a Larry Newton, the boat is listed as out of Franklin, Washington. I am on the other side of the country, but I wonder if we have anybody on the forum that might know him and ask if he has his plans? The boat looked nice. :) B
