Any Advice???? starting my hobby of welding

Im just starting my hobby of welding and wanted to know if anybody knew where to get any good welding machines?:?: :?: :?:

 

Yellow pages. Try to buy from a place that you can talk to and you can pick up the equipment as opposed to having it shipped.

Esab.......my TIG and MIG sets are Esab, they are very good and reliable.

What sort of welding are you referring too anyhow.....TIG, MIG, Gas or Stick.

 

i was referring to stick welding and plasma cutting in 1 machine

 

Just an amateur here, but I got my advice too late to do me any good.

I got my MIG welder at a home improvement store. Then I found out later that the best way you can generally get one is to go where you would buy your gas.

Those guys aren't after a welder sale, they're after years of you buying gas and materials from them. According to a friend I know who is a professional welder, he says they pretty much write off any profit from the sale of the welder and will give you pretty good advice if you talk to them.

If I were able to do it over I would spend twice as much and get 4 times the welder.

 

buy a Miller Welder and you will have it for years....

welding advice

I am not a big fan of combo units.

As for strictly a welder I like Miller for production use or a Lincoln buzz box for home if you are on a budget.

I haven't been on here for some time but i thought I would update you guys on how it is working for me. I'm sure some of you guys were wondering if it's holding up for me and it has! I have had this Weldall 160pi going on 4 years now and I love it. I haven't had any problems with it, i am very satisfied with the choice I made.

My advice is to first learn to TIG weld aluminum from a good instructor. After that, most other things come easily.
