As I understand, it's running fine and isn't broken! What's a BBC... British Broadcasting Corporation? :)

The problem with the olds is that at any rpm above 4800. Too much oil is pumped into the heads and the crank bearing starve for oil. That means that the oil doesn't evacuate fropm the heads to supply the main bearings.

I should imagine this would be a relatively simple matter to restrict the top oil flow to a more suitable rate to prevent undue oil starvation. There may even be a limiting valve that's been overlooked. Also, increasing the oil level might help.

There are oil restrictors that go in the block under the main bearings, Mondello Performance has these, I also have a 10 quart oil pan on my 455 in a jet boat, have been turning 5400 rpm for 12 years now with no oil problems what so ever:p Mondello Performance is California, he is the Oldsmobile Man when it comes to these engines. Makes & stocks all sorts of aftermarket parts for the Oldsmobile:!:

OK SO....I have a 1971 shasta Jet Boat with a 365hp olds motor in it........OK so It runs pretty good so far..It starts pretty easy..Umm My question is though...I just changed the oil in it...I put 20 50 in it...I replaced the dipstick, It needed this bad, However when I did this I had to wait for the dipstick to arrive....Here is where I need some good old fashioned info....With the dipstick gone and an open hole in the block where one would b the engine got very very wet.....The engine since the oil change has not even got 3 mins of run time........(I ve been chasing wiring ghosts)...However I checked it today and it was pretty cloudy....NOT SLUDGEY but really cloudy and almost milky......Could this be from water seaping into the engine from the intense 3 days of rain...Thru the dipstick hole..There is more I also changed the Exahust Gasket becuse when I attempted to start it.Before this rain. While plugged into a garden hosen water SHOT OUT THE exahust gaskets on the Driver side...So I changed them....(NO MORE EXAHUST LEAK or water spraying)...Also after the heavy rain there was ALOT of water on the Intake Mainifold....And just looking at the Mainifold when its dry my first thought would be...WOW that needs NEW GASKETS....So Question is Where is the Water most likely coming From...SHOULD I CHANGE THE INTAKE GASKETS.... Also I have positve oil pressure Last time I checked but Not a staggering huge number.80 or 90 PSI right at starting.. around 60 PSI AT STARTING.IS this normal? When gas is applied it does go up.I think the sending unit is going I m not sure it..It sureges just a touch if I give it gas...NOT ALOT it never zeros out..Once i let off it goes back down to 60 or so PSI...IT Idles well and starts pretty easy... Three pumps and a turn of the switch and its going...idles about just under 800 nicely...........Is all lost or am I making a mtn out of a Mole hill.....Its also very Very rusty.....

Personally I would change the oil & filter & see if the water comes back in the oil. Its possible the water got in the dipstick hole, running it 3 minutes would make it milky. Seems if the intake was leaking that badly, you would have a vacum leak & a terrible idle. As far as oil pressure, seems normal, cold oil will read higher pressure, as it warms up & engine clearances increase with temp, pressure will drop slightly, 20 psi or so. Start at 60 psi cold & 40 psi when warm is ok at idle & would increase with rpm. :D

    here we go again

Sorry guys been busy since last post.

Update ran electrical, to include new gauges and all senders(replaced). LIKE A PRO. except 8 hours longer than a pro. Everything worked great. Even figured out oil and filter, new distributor and fuel filters before and after gas tank selector valve. new exhaust tubes, blowers and all the fixin's to dresser' up. We took it out 4 times so far and each time it ran beautifully. My dad recently took it on the Eagle River chain and must have sucked up some weeds pretty bad. The boat started acting up about 20 minutes into the ride and he said he pulled out some pretty big weeds. Since then, this was yesterday, he's opened up the small compartment in the Berkeley drive to clear the rest of the weeds out and even looked under by the intake grate and he says its clear.

It idles fine, oil's fine, but as soon as you go to give her gas, it runs like crap or just doesn' t go like it should. I don't know how long he was driving with the drive clogged but as soon as it started acting up he checked it out

You'lle need to go up the M1 a fair ways to Bradford. 70,000 sq foot of American cars and engines for boats too.

Im sure you will get BBC from there. I bought SBC 30 years ago from them.
