Building A Raft From Scrap Wood And Barrels

:idea: Whats goin on, my names jesse hicks, i am 17 and I, along with my friends have decided to build a raft from spare peices of plywood, 2x4, 2x6, crate pallets, and plastic barrels as flotation. We are still brewing up our ideas together in which we will decide on the final design, however so far its looking like we will be setting up the raft in demensions of pallet size ( 6 pallets by 4 pallets ) and the propulsion is undecided, if there even will be. the ETA of the completion of the raft is unforceable however we do hope to have it all set up and built by the end of the week. the location of launch will be at Lou's Boat basin near port ewen ny. any ideqas, comments, anything at all stay tuned on this page and we will promise to post pics, videos, and more :?: :!: :idea:

omg you have no idea how close this looks to ours now! that is sooo funny that you have posted this, the only difference between our float and this picture is our barrels are fitted between 2x4, almost as if they were to be set in for a dock. the only thing we are contemplating now is if we would like it higher and longer. believe me when i tell you, once the weather over here starts to shine bright ill take some photos. and thank you for commenting on the life jackets, always wear them, just good to know you support it too.

 

heres an image i found on google which kinda looks like our goal, the only difference is our way of flotation and propulsion, i think we may tow it, if not just mouring it. the shade spot and the bon fire pit however are perfect. more will be added as we progress, and the best part about this project is that everything put in for making this raft is free, scraps of society which we will definantly put into good use

 

Maybe you should hang the firebox over the water to protect the raft.

 

Before you close all other doors, consider other floatation options - barrels are very slow and inefficient. If you just want it to float, then these are great, but if you think that in future you might want to grab a pair of oars, then you might have difficulties.
