14' fiberglass jon boat restoration

Do i need to use marine grade plywood to replace the transom wood? Can i use non treated plywood from my local lumber yard?

 

well you can but no one will advise it ..always assume however good a fibreglass job you do that it will get wet at the bottom and non marine/exterior ply may not be made with waterproof glue...if you are selling it on completion of the job well maybe yes....

 

You can, but how long it lasts depends on how well you seal it, and how well you keep it sealed. By that I mean, holes drilled or cut into the transom have to be sealed as well. And I would use an epoxy resin to seal it all up. It is certainly a lot better to use marine ply. But pistnbroke is right, you have to assume it will get wet. That's the nature of transoms.
