Can anyone suggest a builder that could take a set of plans and construct a steel Dutch barge replica? I'm located in Florida but will consider builders across North America. It would be for two boats at approximately 40-42 FT with 12 FT beams. Any help would really be appreciated.

There are a couple of builders in the Gulf coast I know of that could do this type of work. Trinity Marine has a steel division, Boyard (sp) does custom work, I think the Grumman yard will, and ACY as well. If you are looking for something in this area PM me I can check around.

Thanks Stumble I appreciate the help. I'm determined to find a smaller builder that can build to a very tight budget. I'm based in the Orlando area so the Gulf builders would be fine but I'm flexible since the budget will drive my selection options. I'll add these to my list. Thanks again.

Try Custom Steel Boats in Merritt, NC. They are very good and reasonably priced. Their website is www.customsteelboats.com. The yard is owned by Teresa and Rodney Flowers (sister and brother).

You can also try St. Augustine Marine here in St. Augustine. They can fabricate in steel and aluminum. Watch your pennies here--keep track of their accounting on your project.

The other steel builders in the area like Newcastle Marine and St. Johns Shipbuilding, both in Palatka, are thin on work, although they tend to go for much bigger vessels. You could give them a call just to see what they are up to and if they would be interested in a smaller project.

I have direct experience with the first two, and Custom Steel Boats would likely be the best fit for a project like yours.

    I hope that helps.

    Cost effective solution

    Hi,

We have been building boats for the last 41 years and have been exporting to the Dutch market for the last 16 years. We have a deep understanding of the export market and its requirement.

Our business have been based around the fiberglass boat building however we also have a subsidiary business operation that deals with steel engineering. Therefore we could provide you with a cost effective solution.

Please feel free to contact me

What sort of vessels were you exporting to the Dutch market?
Do you have some photos, etc?

I have a project in mind that I am now just exploring....its a coastal trawler powerboat.

Hi please send me an email and I will send all the details you need. I have put up some pictures on the forum on one of my posts but if you like you can also visit our partners website and get an idea of the types of boats we build for the Dutch market. www.menkenmaritiem.nl/en/menken-maritiem.html

    Thanks
