Carolina Fender Strake

I've been searching for the actual name of this for a while with no luck.

What is the name of the structure that is usually on Carolina style hulls near the aft? , it is strake like, runs fore and aft on the outboard sides of the hull. it can be used to protect the hull from mooring close to docks.


Also, what is this usually made of from?

Quarter guard

It might be made of wood on your typical cold-molded sportfish, or it might be rigid molded PVC (and painted to match), it's often shod with SS rub strip.

 

Is the one out of the water or below? The below the water is a chine and the one out the water is the splash guard.

They usally make them out of a hardwood or a closed cell foam

I'm interested in learning a bit more about these.

I see them all the time, and didn't know there technical name.

If one was to build a quarter guard, for say a 25 ft boat, how would one go about it?

Also, Tad you mention threes rigid PVC versions, I Google'd it and didn't really find much besides 'military quarter guards'
