garage floor paint on deck??

was going to get resing for the project and thinking about things to come, i have a kit of two part epoxy garage floor paint left from the garage project, has anyone used it on a boat deck, how durable? opinions/experiences???

 

epoxy two pack is Ok , if costs are an important factor and you have some already, use it.

 

It will work, but most say on the label they're not designed for outdoor use. The reason is that epoxies don't hold up all that well in sunlight, it may turn yellow and chalk much sooner than other products.

I used 2 pack epoxy floorpaint which was cleaned using water,!!!! I know sounds strainge but you could thin it down with water as well.
I sprayed all under the deck head of a small boat I had, painted the decks and cockpit with it ---oohh the other thing, the ply wood was just standard outdoor ply, NOT ,marine ply.
Well 3 years on and the boat has been left out in all weathers, slung into the back garden and has not been moved the last year and the ply is still good with no signs of delam.

Try and cover it with something more UV resistant - like spar varnish or polyurethane.

many of the flooring epoxies are uv resistant, the manufacturer can advise otherwise.

 

I painted my garage floor with the product a year ago, have a strip outside of the garage door about 10" wide exposed to the elements seems to be no worse for wear than the interior part. i still am not convinced i may or may not. see how things look when i get to that stage.

 

This may not apply to water based epoxys, but from the West site:

It is important to realize, however, that while pigmented epoxy may be somewhat more UV resistant than unpigmented epoxy, pigmented epoxy should still be covered with a UV resistant coating, either clear coat or paint, to protect it from UV radiation for outdoor applications.

 

as a footnote to this whole discussion i have decided against using this on the deck, as i remember this paint only had about a 1 hour potlife, fine if 2 people are painting a garage floor. standing aft of the boat i realised the cut in alone would take that more or less, so i will search for another option, thanks for all the input none the less.

I have used PPG AquaPon for years with good results.
Doesn't do shiny, but is durable and tough.
Cleans up with water.
