How to include text, and represent deck machinery?

How would you represent deck machinery (windlass, fishing gear, etc) in freeship?

And it is possible to include text which is readable in some of the views?

how do you set the baseline to the new 'bottom' if you add a keel for instance?

FreeShip does all hydrostatic calculations based on the lowest point of the hull, not the baseline. However if you feel that the lowest point should be at 0, you can use transform/move.

    thank's magwas

the hydrostatics are calculated for the lowest part of the hull but SSD, cross curves and GZ is calculated from the baseline even if your hydrostatics is giving you correct figures the dynamic stability will not if the baseline is somewhere but on the bottom...

move... what a simple solution... ;)

I have been playing with Delftship pro for a year on & off, its still a learning curve though i am getting the hang of it! Curious about one thing at the moment how do you get it to do a resistance report? the manual is not clear on how to do this though two methods are available. Any help or advice on this aspect would be appreciated

Menu bar <View>, <Resistance...>, set speed range (may be truncated if boat is outside series range), select tick box for "Extract data from model", set draft. It should produce curves. You can view the report in a separate window and print it.

Your hull has to be long and slender for the KAPER series and more conventional displacement (sailing) boat for the Delft series.

Use the data as a guide. If you want something more accurate then Michlet will give much better results for slender hulls up to L/B of about 4. Delftship has an export function to produce Michlet files.

Thanks for that, now sorted. I can work with that for comparison purposes. I have michlet downloaded but i realise there is no way i am going to be able to use it without serious help, I just aint good enough with computers. And dont say read the manual because i dont get three quarters of it! No disrespect meant to Leo lauzaukas! What the hell i just like building the things!

If you want to get a comparison with Michlet then post or email your fbm file to me and I will run the data.

A quick method for obtaining the perimeter shape of an inclined bulkhead is to rotate the boat to the correct angle to make the bulkhead vertical, then run a station through the new x point/position and export the offsets. This will give you the knuckle points or the points around the curve of your bulkhead. You can then loft it (draw it out full sized) and subtract skin thickness, frame notches etc. This apparently doesn't work in Delftship but I have an inquiry into this at the DS forum. You CAN save the file as a 2.6 version then open it in any of the other Freeship program versions of 2.6 or higher and obtain the offsets that way. Sneaky but it works.

Thanks for the thread Steve, I'm trying to digitize my workshop with delftship and its a lot of new things to learn for a traditional boatbuilder, use to A1 sheets of paper, lofting, and the old skills required to shape wood.

I have read many threads and I still can't figure out how to print my stations out on 8x11 paper so I can make a small physical model. Using Delftship. thanks
