Electrolysis of Seawater with titanium

I am researching to stay alive at sea for 1 year. I have extremelly short boat designs in my mind and I am preparing for lost at sea for 1 year or less.

I am not saying this passage will not exceed 5 months but I scare from the things can happen , I am roping my horse to the stong tree.

I found wave energy , wind energy , solar energy can help me but I am thinking that I need something directly engineered for production 2 liters drinking water per day. By the way , I will carry a survivor 06 also.

Long time ago someone said here , electrolysis of sea water do not produce drinkable water. But I found that titanium electrodes are advertised for making drinking water from seawater at chinese sites but they are big parts and I dont know how to use them . If I talk with chat programs at alibaba com , i know they will only try to sell .

Abstract
Ultraviolet irradiation (351, 364 nm) of the n-type semiconductor TiO2 as the single crystal electrode of an aqueous electrochemical cell evolves O2 at the TiO2 electrode and H2 at the Pt electrode. The gases are typically evolved in a two: one (H2:O2) volume ratio. The photoassisted reaction seems to require applied voltages, but values as low as 0.25 V do allow the photoassisted electrolysis to proceed. Prolonged irradiation in either acid or base evolves the gaseous products in amounts which clearly demonstrate that the reaction is catalytic with respect to the TiO2. The wavelength response of the TiO2 and the correlation of product yield and current are reported. The results support the claim that TiO2 is a true photoassistance agent for the electrolysis of water. Minimum optical storage efficiencies of the order of 1% can be achieved by the production of H2.

Sorry to say it, but this sounds like Robinson Crusoe fantasy to a modern human. There are plenty of survival handbooks to look up but chances aren't high you will endure that long.

Anyway, the research paper is about a high efficient solar technology, which is very expensive and bulky. It's not for producing water perse.

 

Typical high teck overdone project. Two liters a day will give you kidney failure much before the year is up. Plastic tanks are the cheap, easy way to carry water. Tarps collect rain water. A hand cranked water maker will make at least two liters an hour.

 

It seems he meant only for drinking, no washing, shower or cooking.
Plastic tank often has some odor, a metallic one offers more options.
Using any tech means they won't last long without servicing, replacing, etc.
Good old burning wood is best if there are enough trees around. :lol:

 

Water tanks made of the proper plastic have no taste at all.

 

Maybe, but try to have hot water in them. On the other side you can use a metallic tank to boil water in a fire.
Anyway, since everyone has to serve once in the military over there he should know this.

Lets talk more tropical survival techniques:
-how to open a coconut: take a drill an drill two holes then suck on one. :lol:
