Hi Westie, Long time since we last had a chat... I cannot remember why but I guess it was in response to someone's recanting data from a prophesy... Maybe this thread is dead and has become the domain of drivel?

If Japan sank --would you mis it?

It would stop the whaling I suppose.

I could live without sushi and Toyota, but not those crazy Tv game shows.

Sushi is high risk food as it is so easily contaminated and nasty food poisoning could result... make your own and eat as you go - good social food but I will not buy at a shop...

Try This - - freshly grated raw fish "cooked in the freshly squeezed juice of 'sour' lemons then add some freshly hand ground (stone mortar&pestle) whole hot chillies mix liberally with the fish enjoy with a cold salad in the Greek/Mediterranean style and a chilled sweet white wine...

My point is the cost of labour in the "west", means that kids are hired - - and some are so young if they itch, they still instinctively scratch their arse and or pick their nose or forget to thoroughly wash their hands after toilet, and therein lies the problem...

I just read about the glacial areas, so if the end came with an ice age , then our craft must be able to be underground in a volcanic zone, fly and dive

you know you are absolutely right in that one must define the nature of the end of the world in order to know what kind of boat to build or even if a boat would help you any

Actually if its a run away freeze event no amount of boat is going to save you although you would be the last survivor. Nice eh
would lead to economic disaster so everything would have to be reproducible on board

If its a anaerobic stratification event then you wont want to be on the water
and would lead to large scale economic collapse with the likelihood of a 2 class system emerging as the predominant social form

If its simply a eutrophication of the oceans then you would not be able to find any fish to eat and it would be like living in the dessert but you would be able to get from point a to point b
same social scenario as the previous

if its simple global warming then the storms at sea will likely intensify so your vessel would need to be appropriately designed to resists the oceans angry moods. from a social point of view this is actually the least destructive and I would expect the corporate oligarchy would go right on taking advantage of all the rest of us

    bla bla bla

does completely depend on the nature of the end now doesnt it

    cheers

The end of the world will be as a whimper as the global financial systems collapse in some of the risk exposed Euro countries and USA to start... Links and regularly updated data can be found here http://boats-n-stuff.com.au/forum/index.php/topic,3.45.html as masalai is using an "Australian" site now...

"This thread is in honour of Dr Chandra Rau who suggested that his profession (economics) was remarkably similar to "witchcraft" and always attracted a political following which is where the "lies" fits in representing (politics)... So discussion is loosely associated with current manoeuvres in Economics and Politics... which will cover lots of ********, but hopefully informative and useful to visiting readers...

My part will include "moderation", and as a retired retard, I like to keep up with relevant news and events (some call it "data mining") - I just figuer it is a good way to keep me pleasantly occupied and up to date with world events... Most of my posts will be links and copy&paste of essays provided as a free email service and will have links to subscribe and get your own by email automatically...

To give myself some incentive I have a very small gold bullion interest at Perth Mint, other than that token, a pension and primary place of residence to retain total independence and freedom of movement..."

I'm not holding you responsible but what do you see as a likely scenario over the next 5 years? Both Europe and the US seem to have ran the wheels off the wagon. Is this Greek tragedy going to ensnare the Euro zone? Are those gov't. spending and taxation policies a forewarning of the plight of the US?

What with Greece ... is up in the air at the moment... either allowed to fail and separate from Euro-zone (most sensible in the long term for all parties) or massive bailout ?? or whatever you want to call the deferring of a sensible but somewhat painful decision...

The collapse of UK and USA is a matter of when? - the trigger? - and just how stupid the sheeple continue to be - sorry, but it is not pretty, - - I could be wrong, - - but that is how it seems to me, - - just too much denial, lies etc etc and so on in high places... It all must stop somewhere - - and the sooner the better, as the fall will not be so hard (fast) or great (far to the bottom)... The levels of sovereign debt, corporate debt and combined with huge quantities of 'hidden paper' debt such as derivatives are alarming, to say the least...

Look around here http://boats-n-stuff.com.au/forum/index.php/topic,3.new.html#new and read the links to keep up to date... there are other threads on that board as well that may be of interest economically...

Many of the essayists whom I regard as "on the ball" are very nervous and jittery, and only the fools are full of ******** pretending it is time to be full of optimism as the "good times are close at hand" by printing the "press releases" they have been given/instructed to publish, so as to pull in more suckers in to be fleeced... - similar is happening here but not quite so bad yet...

Ask your financial advisor if he/she subscribes to the Keynesian school of economic analysis... If he-or-she says "YES", pull out and leave immediately, If they scoff and say "Austrian" - then they may have better than an inkling and understanding of the issues soon to confront us all as economic norms collapse...

I think from a financial point of view the charade could be made to go on for quite some time

oh there will be a destruction of the middle class but there will be commerce in consumables as always

the real collapse will be environmental
that one you cant fix with the wave of a magic wand
once that happens then your going to see the end

a simple escape from financial ruin is not going to be had through yachting
    ask anyone who owns one

caring for the bottom paint alone might just end the independent dream let alone all the other maintanance issues associated with any boat

Yes Boston, a very real chance of that delaying scenario... I am not geting into the other (climate - or - environmental deterioration ) discussion but that too is plausible... Maintenance of a high-tech material hull will cause problems for me in the long term but 20 years will see me beyond long range cruising at +85 - - - but some are near that age? and still going strong...
