    I think I have eat at least once whale meat at home when child, but I'm not sure as this is a vague mist in my memory.

    Whale hunting was active in Galicia till the late seventies, if I'm not wrong.

    Well I've eaten quite a few cans of tuna, so I guess I would have to say I did, tastes like tuna.

    Ingredients:

    1 (105 ton) Whale
    1896 lbs Onions
    7326 lbs Potatoes
    1908 gallons Tomato Sauce
    2276 lbs Carrots
    927 lbs Celery
    104 lbs Salt
    76 lbs Black Pepper
    52 gallons Tabasco Sauce


    Directions:

    Place whale in pot with tomato sauce. Cook at 300 degrees for 4 hours. Add onions, potatoes, carrots, celery, salt, pepper and Tabasco sauce. Simmer 36 hours. Serves 347,161 people.

    Whale Steak
    4 portions
    4 slices of whalemeat @ 150 - 180 g
    Salt and pepper, preferably freshly ground
    4 onion rings
    2 dessert spoonfulls of finely diced green or red peppers
    1 dessert spoonful of finely diced parsley
    1 dessert spoonful of finely diced gherkins


    Carve the meat into slices of about 1.5 to 2 cm thick, beat them with your hands and press them into shape. Preheat the frying pan and melt some butter in it. Brown the butter before adding the meat. Fry the steaks on both sides. Whale meat should be fried for about 4-5 minutes on each side. The steaks taste best when they are medium rare, but they should be warmed right through and not eaten raw. Serve the steaks on a plate, place an onion ring on each of them and fill it with peppers, parsley and gherkins. Potato scallops taste good together with the steaks. Serve with a bowl of good, crisp lettuce and salad.

    Wow,... Mark, the math on that actually works for a decent portion size.

    But what do you use as a heat source? And should you brown the meat before adding tomato sauce? Any extra water to be added to replace what boils off, or are you going for a thickened sauce?

    Here's a recipe for "SeaShepherd's Pie,' by some pro-whaling folks who obviously have a sense of humor when it comes to naming recipes:

    Serves 4/5

    Ingredients:
    Pilot Whale mince 300+g (expensive tail area or belly area meat if you can get it!)
    1 clove of garlic
    2 large Onions
    2 carrot
    1 tin of tomatoes
    2 fresh tomatoes(largish)
    500g+ of boiling potatoes(newish)
    200g sweede/parsnip
    30-50g of (button-top) mushrooms
    1 tin of baked beans (not readily available easily in JP!)
    20g grated (chedder) cheese
    Pepper,Salt,Chilli powder
    milk
    butter

    Method:
    Step 1

    Peel and boil potatoes, carrots, sweede/parsnips. When boiled, mash with butter and milk into creamy mix

    Garlic, diced onions then whale mince and tinned tomatoes in fry pan - seaon with salt, pepper and chilli powder - fry gently until all cooked through

    Step 2

    Place cooked meat mix at the bottom of a deep oven dish,
    on top layer baked beans, and then mashed potato. On top of the mashed potato sprinkle the cheese and place sliced fresh tomato on top of this. Season with pepper.

    Place in oven Gas mark 3, for about 20-30 mins until golden brown.

    Serve with fresh garden peas(boiled)and other veg!

    Wash down with some great British warm dark beer!
