Thanks, Dave. I didn't get into the forum - didn't figure I had time. The first
link, Port Security Advisory 4-09 (rev 2) Final (2).pdf (39.9 KB, 2 views) , kinda indicates no bigger than .50 cal (good enuf) and non-automatic. The US didn't sign our rights away by treaty, did they, to form this International Traffic In Arms Regulation (ITAR)? Again, tho, I have seen pics of mercs with selective fire (auto). There must be exceptions made but I sure wouldn't want the Feds pissed at me. The second link just talked about TWIC (proof of background check and photo ID). Mariner's document isn't good enough anymore - they need to do yet another background check and make yet another picture ID.

Hi Boston, your friend's idea is not new, there are already firms offering this services, so there must be a market and a way to do it.

    what would be needed

I'm a little curious about why it would be hard to find a boat for this. It's easy to find cheap, used fishing trawlers in the 50' to 75' range? What would be the problems with one of those? They couldn't keep up with the freighters? They aren't reliable enough? They smell like fish? :)

ok well I just got off the phone with those guys and they are looking for a marine Ma-Duce if anyone has a handle on one
two actually but its all depending on the price
I sent a link to the boat you suggested Marco and they think its to small but thanks anyway
they are hell bent on a 100'+ steel armored navy or coast guard something
they have a layer on board who is also navy seal who is looking over the legal stuff you guys suggested and digging into Djibouti laws for american flagged vessels. He seems to know what he's talking about but said to send him anything I found so I did

basically other than the operating costs of the boat they seem to be gradually pulling it together

speaking of which they asked if I would check on shipping companies operating in those areas that might need there services

anyone know some of those guys down there dodging pirates
contact info would be greatly appreciated

    thanks
    B

Yes Dave, Time is money and the military profile will preclude ever having to actually use force.

OK here is the ideal boat. Mus contact the Norvegian military. Built in 1977 so cant ask for much. 33m long 35+ knotts. May even convince them to forget to dismantle the missiles if you tell them what you are going to use them for.

Check out the pics next to the boat plans link, the one launching the missle is a good one.

I think the guys who are doing it already are just getting on board the customers vessel ( can do in international waters and then leave with guns)
But you would need to check your insurance first

Wonderful. A shot will never need be fired. It's gonna roll in seas and the crew is gonna puke but this is perfect.

No Mark I did not apply to the Norwegian navy, you have to fill in forms and stuff. I don't think they will be real cheap but also can not ask for much for something built in the seventies. There is a whole heap of ex navy/army/patrol boats on offer in northern Europe, have a look at the other links I posted, I found that after only 10 minutes searches so I am sure there is a whole heap more. The problem older military boats have for civilian life is that they are far too fuel thirsty since they are geared for speed. Main engine: 2 x MTU 538 MD 16V TB91 3600 HP at 1900 rpm
If you have to repower and then modify interior, you end up spending a small fortune and may s well buy something else second hand.
Of course fs the intended use is military then they must be perfect for that.

Do you think this things will roll a lot? I can see they have no keel at all. May be if you buy one you can add two long and slim floaters on the side separated from the hull by some spaceship arms of sort and make into a trimaran?
