Flat panel building method is fine for some but not all plywood designs. This is not the method you asked about to start with. The problem for smaller designs is weight. To achieve the same strength fiberglass/resin only panel lay-up as a plywood panel will the weigh will be higher? Have you emailed James Wharram about this? It’s the only way to get the real answer. If it’s acceptable he will give you the lay-up schedule. Be sure and let everyone know what he says. If he says no go to Richard Woods and see which designs of his specifically can be built this way. He is very helpful and an excellent designer.

 

I've posted in the forum of JW and have sent emails, and no answers.
Problem is spend money on new plans, tiki I already have.
Woods, Kohler and Fischer, are great designers, discuss any questions and provide options for the amateur builder.

 

I’m afraid the trend at JWD is heading in the bad support direction. I had to email repeatedly to get a simple answer last year and became a little aggravated along the way. Their forum isn’t a lot of help either. Consider this when saying the cost of plans is an issue. If you stumble on another issue once started and can’t get an answer what will you do? At least the other designers you mention have reasonable prices as well as support.

Can you find more information on the method other than the mention on Paul Fishers site and this article by Woods? I sent off an email to Mr. Woods for you but he is in route to the Bahamas for the winter so it could be a few days if not more before we here from him.

I have his plans for a Sango in both round bilge strip plank and plywood panel. Nice little boat.

 

I already sent a long time ago, but he by an ethical issue rather not interfere in projects that are not his

 

I asked if it could be done with his Sango so maybe we’ll get an answer

 

The tiki is a simple shape, build your mould in female frames with laminex (Formica?) coated sheets like mdf, ply or chipboard, any radii can be made with plasticine and a suitable tool drill bit etc. wax, gel coat and lay up!
