On your first point, I'm very well aware of the origins of the hypothesis (it's not a theory because a theory is a hypothesis that has survived rigorous testing, which AGW has NOT).

On your second point, my argument should be taken on it's face. The virtually sole support for the idea that 20th century climate was anomalous is found in the works (data manipulations and published papers) of the men who are the subject of the 'climategate' scandal.

I know this statement is hard for you to swallow; "Surely", you might say, "there must be TONS of evidence out there that supports their bold assertions WRT the Medeival Warm Period". I'm sorry, but there is NOT. A very strong consensus of the conclusions among the recons that studied the MWP was that the MWP was as warm or warmer than present and global in scope. Even the IPCC published recons which showed a prominent MWP as warm or warmer than present, and acknowledged it was a global phenomena. MBH-98 changed all that. But MBH-98 (and all it's children and cousins) were long ago de-bunked.

That there is something anomalous about recent climate is a foundation of the AGW hypothesis; without this you have nothing.

Do you not understand these realities?

That's more than 'hard for me to swallow.' It's absurd on the face of it.

When I google 'evidence for man-made global warming,' the top of the list is an article in Science News from 2007, about the report released by the IPPC.

    Let's see what it says....

The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) concludes that major advances in climate modelling and the collection and analysis of data now give scientists “very high confidence” (at least a 9 out of 10 chance of being correct) in their understanding of how human activities are causing the world to warm. This level of confidence is much greater than what could be achieved in 2001 when the IPCC issued its last major report.

    ....

The report was produced by some 600 authors from 40 countries.
Over 620 expert reviewers and a large number of government reviewers also participated. Representatives from 113 governments reviewed and revised the Summary line-by-line during the course of this week before adopting it and accepting the underlying report.

And you're trying to tell me the work of those 600 authors from 40 countries is almost entirely based on shenanigans and falsified data from one lousy research lab in England? I don't think so.

Initial research on the MWP and the following Little Ice Age (LIA) was largely done in Europe, where the phenomenon was most obvious and clearly documented. It was initially believed that the temperature changes were global.[2] However, this view has been questioned; the 2001 IPCC report summarises this research, saying "…current evidence does not support globally synchronous periods of anomalous cold or warmth over this time frame, and the conventional terms of 'Little Ice Age' and 'Medieval Warm Period' appear to have limited utility in describing trends in hemispheric or global mean temperature changes in past centuries".[3] Global temperature records taken from ice cores, tree rings, and lake deposits, have shown that, taken globally, the Earth may have been slightly cooler (by 0.03 degrees Celsius) during the 'Medieval Warm Period' than in the early- and mid-20th century.[4] Crowley and Lowery (2000) [5] note that "there is insufficient documentation as to its existence in the Southern hemisphere."

Looks like the claim that the Medieval Warm Period was global is unsupported by the current data.

The ozone hole might be closing because we banned Chlorofluorocarbons. You think?

And the 'so-called' H1N1 strain of flu is still killing people. Those deaths are apart from, and in addition to, the normal deaths occuring during the flu season from other strains. The fact that it fortunately hasn't been as deadly as feared hardly supports any notion that it doesn't exist.

Don't worry, next year it will be H1N2 or H2N1 or watever they name it, something has to support pharmaceutical business.
By the way, why the don't call it "global worming" anymore, but "climate change"?
And have you seen that "ozon hole" yourself?

If you're suggesting medical researchers simply make up new strains of flu so the pharmaceutical industry can sell more drugs, I don't even want to start with you. How about we stick to one conspiracy per thread?

No one asked me before they switched from global warming to climate change. But they may have done it because they got tired of hearing people say things like, "you cain't tell me the globe is warming. I left a sixpack of beer in my pickup last night, and every single can froze solid as a rock."

No, I've never seen the ozone hole myself. Then again, I've never seen the Eiffel Tower. Does that mean it's a hoax?

First of all I respect your opinion.
But comparing Eiffel Tower to ozone hole means that you don't have any arguments to support your staitmet. Neither do I, by the way. It is just an opinion, that is what forums are for. But don't tell me that nobody made $$$$ by replacing freon with more expensive R12.
Also Troy, let me ask you this - did you really believe in "Russians are coming", or Soviet Union is going to nuc United States in old days?
