Angle of engine on a longtail straight shaft mud motor?

    I plan to build a longtail (straght shaft) mud motor and I am concerned that my motor will not handle the angle needed.

    I have seen several posts that state "it is fine for an engine to run at 15 degrees off of level".

    I have a tecumseh 6 hp (OHH60) and the posts that i have seen reguarding this issue all pertain to honda or lifan engines. I am wondering if this "15 degree is ok" rule also pertains to my tecumseh 6hp horizontal shaft engine or if this information is specific to honda and lifan.

    I have looked and looked through manuals, reference guides, and every corner of the internet to find an operating angle limit for my engine without sucess.

    Does anyone know where to find this information?

    first thing is is it a two stroke ? if it is then the angle does not mater except for if the carb is ok...the lifan honda is all about oil in the sump levels ....will loook it up on google and see

    well it looks like a 4 stroke and its used on go karts so you have the normal problem of oil climbing the crankcase walls when in a turn ....I think you just tlit it to 15 deg ( up or down dependent on oil filler positon ) and fill it to the top of the filler ......maybe we are talking + 20 % on sump oil volume ..at least you did not pick one of those pissy weed eater things ..you will have some power ..are you going to put a chain drive reduction on it to make it a right hand prop?

    I am still debating. I love your concept, easier to find props. I am also thinking about trying pillow block bearings to support the drive shaft. Any ideas/concerns on that? I dont have a lathe to do a set up like yours. Just designing right now and trying to find a way to cut costs without losing too much.

    did you look at my post 6.5 hp lifan/honda thai longtail ??? it has all the ideas you need and if you use U bolts to hold the shaft tube to the engine plate no need for welding ..you must make a good job of the bearings if you want to use a chain drive

    I had read through your post on that. Nice. I really am thinking of using your design. What I don't understand is your shaft/bearing setup. How much did it cost and can you explain it further?

    P.S. I know almost nothing about bearings so be prepared for stupid questions.

    well its all in the drawings ...at the engine end is a sealed single row ball bearing ...you just quote the inner and outer diameter you want ..and at the prop end is a taper roller bearing which takes thrust and radial loads ..again you just quote the innner and outer diameter ...same for oil or lip seals

    Your bigges problem will be building it without a lathe which is why so many use self lubricating cutlass bearings and drive straight to the prop
