    Question as title :

I get a ferocious headache when I go near polyester resin (including finished mouldings) and am interested to know whether vinylester resin is just as noxious ?

    Thanks,

    Boo

But polyester resin and vinylester resin consist for approx 40% out of styrene. This is what gives the smell...

Yes they both use a great deal of styrene, but VE has a very different odor.

Actually never noticed a different odour. Could be that either you are a better smeller, or that my smell already has suffered too much...

Anyhow, they both smell, I mean, they smell bad.

You should be wearing a respirator when using polyester resin. I wear a respirator with organic vapor cartridges before I open the can. Styrene will burn up your brain. Bad stuff

    Hi Boo2,

The best is to get a decent extractor fan. Respirators etc can be uncomfortable.

    I kinda like the smell.

YES IT DOES, the only differense is that it cures slowly with the same additives as poliester so you need DMA winter accelerant, that wll turn the resin between a light tea color and green

I think it is mainly the catalyst causing your headache. And it depends on the individual: some people kind of like the smell of the resin and get no headaches from it.
