    Hi,
    My knowledge of shipbuilding is only that of what a childhood obsession and a still standing fascination with the RMS Titanic could bring. So as you can imagine, it's a little dated. But I have a dream in life to construct this boat as my home. I didn't know where the best place to start is when you want to construct what would be considered as a twin-screw, diesel-driven, steel-hulled, 'super yacht' and have complete control over the design, construction, and furnishing. Seems like a complicated project that would cost millions and millions of dollars... But anyway, I started with an idea;

And since then I've been working out the interiors and the structure of what this dream would contain.

So I came here to see any professional, knowledgable feedback I could find. Anything at all would be appreciated, I'm just curious and looking for a start. This is kind of silly though, but I tend to do that.
I guess this is pretty vague too, so I could also answer any questions.

There are plenty of options and any qualified builder will build exactly to your specifications.

If you would like to discuss some of the options in the NY area you can send me an email and I would be glad to point you in the right direction

You would need good knowledge of welding, carpentry and mechanics, to start...

Both..........more cash and more lifeboats..............maybe more funnels too?
but first he needs a marina berth! That thingy is above 60 meter long, and berths are rare in that size!

Wow, well thank you. I did not know that shipbuilders would do that. And actually the name 'Brooklyn' can be misleading. I have nothing to do with the borough of Brooklyn or any town named Brooklyn, I named this conceptual boat 'Brooklyn' after 'Brooke'

Who I've been told I do too much for and would also be trying to build this boat for her. Crazy, right?
But thanks, very nice of you to respond and offer!

Right! And I don't have it, I'm just some knucklehead cartoonist with hopes of working into film, television, and video game production based on an authored work of my own bizarre mind.

I know, I've guessed at $80 millions. But with a little luck, I can make it happen!

Actually that was another thing I wondered in coming here. Board of Trade or ship regulations I do not know. For this boat I have two lifeboats with a capacity of about 66 each. But this boat would only carry two people. Perhaps 50 tops with some kind of event, but it only has seven bedrooms, I believe.

But, hey, thanks for all the responses! It's very flattering and amusing to have any feedback on this ridiculous project! Even as ridiculous as it is though, I do put my whole heart into and will seriously pursue this in life.

Is that so about the funnels? I thought they were no longer functional outside of ventilating. I only put one for aesthetics and was inspired somewhat by the RMS Nomadic. I don't know about docking, this is a good way of isolationism though! Especially when you run out of gas.

No no, that was a joke, you will not need any funnel. Air intake can be built in a hidden manner, but the berth was no joke! Hard to find and expensive. Your calculation of the cost seems about right btw.
And be aware that such ship will cost you another 8 to 10% of that every year, no matter if she travels or not!
There will be more than 2 people on board, to make that clear too.
This is a 800 or so tonnes vessel, and you will need some 6 to 8 crew! Thats mandatory.

But a nice dream, why not.......dreaming is for free and limitless...

If that be so then bureaucracy and formalities have just crushed my dreams... I'm scared. Does this mean that I have to get in some high government power now too? Jeez, what you gotta' do in this world for your heart's content!

It is never a fault to be the one behind the president, if you want my opinion.
But in this case that does only help if you do´nt plan to go abroad, because the rules for manning a ship are worldwide equal!
But there is another point! You are not able to maneuvre such vessel with less than 6!
If that is a consolation for you; I would downsize to a vessel you could handle. Have a look at the link posted above, I plan to do that, and I can handle it with the assistance of one skilled person.
But first you should start to get some sealegs! Go sailing whenever possible. You soon will notice that "the larger the better" is not true.
And it might be worth to think about buying a 2 million boat first and enjoy being on the water during all the weeks it needs to earn the other 78.

    Regards
    Richard

Well, I guess I've got to face the music. Thank you for your feedback and attention. But it seems my motto of "If you can dream it, it can happen" has failed me for the first time. I guess on this earth I can't live this out. So now I guess I'll have to work on building a house.

    Dern property taxes!

But, hey, thanks again. Nice of you to spend the time on this.

    You´re welcome!
Of course a house is a piece of cake compared with a yacht, but there are others quite happy as a couple on a bit less space at sea!

    Anyway all the best
and go on dreaming, your motto is right.

You could always build a house.........boat, no?
And....since you have well demonstrated your artistic ability, you could build a comic strip around it, like Gasoline Alley or B.C.. Why not?

    Well thank you!
I think I will still have find or build a boat though, it is a passion. This house will have to be on a lake, and the boat much smaller. Something manageable! Thanks to all!
