Hydroptere has an excellent chance to completely rewrite the record book-I believe they can do it and I hope they do.
    Go Hydroptere!

I have been convinced for some time that Hydroptere used her engine to move water ballast at least when in her ocean racing configuration. I was wrong-just received this from Team Hydroptere:

    "Hi,

    Thank you for your message.

When l’Hydroptère is in her “ocean configuration” there is a system in the rudder to fill water ballasts. Thanks to speed and pressure ballasts are filled out without any engine.

    Best regards,

Interesting concept! Wonder if it would work at lower speeds?

Well, if it is ratified, it only gets them the D-Class record and not the Outright Record, which still belongs to the Kiteboarder, Alex Caizergues at 50.57 knots RATIFIED.

A kiteboarder VS how many millions of dollars?

Hydrop is cool machine, but they're getting smoked by a $5K rig and a guy with big cajones.

Too bad there isn't an official cost per knot record...

... and Doug, there's no official record for anything called Peak Speed. That number is tantamount to getting excited by fake breasts... you're only kidding yourself if you think the number is real. ;-)

Hey Christopher, you've got admit, notwithstanding your feud with Doug (who can be at times insufferable, yes) that is a Fargo trucking amazing bit of speed sailing from the Hydroptere team. Say it through gritted teeth, my man - but you have to say it -foils are more than okay. Cheers.

New Build Multihull 60-75ft with Wing or Fixed propulsion rig

    Doug

I own Larinka, (enter into Google nd images will appaear) the last of the Walker Wingsails and now intend building a much larger multihull but want speed as well as comfort. I am therefore reluctantly seling Larinka for since our complete redesign of the control systems and equipment adopted on board need something more suitable for our needs. I intend building one down in the Philippines where I have development interests but your knowledge would be useful in adpoting a rig. ? I had intended placing two fixed wings with curavature but no tail as we have currently and no moveable flaps as we have. The method of propulsion we currnetly have and the simple controls we have adopted work perfectly but the boat is too heavy as designed and built and at 15 tons we cvan get 14 knots from her in a good wind. In light winds she is useless and performs as a monohull ref speed.

Any ideas. I fllowed Richard Jenkins attempts a few years ago and spoke to him for there was interest in how larinka worded at the very outset of building the land craft for his team .As I am now ready to investigate and then build something would appreciate feedback or thoughts. James, if I were you I'd talk to the guys at Calvert Sails, Randy Smyth or Steve Clark. Steve is a member here so you could PM him, Calvert Sails is in the Keys-don't know the address but they are specialists in square top multihull sails, and Randy Smyth is out Ft. Walton FL. Also, Dr. Sam Bradfield might be able to help you at http://sites.google.com/site/hydrosail/HydroSail-Home
