Through-hull for steel sailboat - how to do it ?

    I agree on the #316 nipples. All you really need to ensure is the proper welding rod( Stainless to mild steel, supplied by Unitor), and a good fillet outside and inside.Then wire brush thoroughly before painting. With the excellent two part epoxy paints of today like Jotun, you will not have any corrosion problems! Then put a proper stainless steel ball valve on the nipple. I prefer a three part body,(that can be stripped easily for servicing and repair)
