plating, how not to

    I think this technique of bow plating was in vogue for a while.

    tee hee, I once started a thread, Bueautiful Metal Boats, perhaps we should start The Ugliest Metal Boats, most would come from Australia
    Although that one has a nice enough entry albeit a wet ride in stiff bzeeze

    Vertical plating can create a huge increase in drag if it is not totally fair, as the water flows across the seams, rather than along them.

    A friend did an electronics job behind the iron curtain in the communist era. Some of the most beautiful women imaginable there made a beeline to the westerners and dropped their local boyfriends, as they saw a way out. Many of this crew came home with new brides.They obviously thought to so too.
    White South African women are so useless that they don't know how to boil a pot of water without burning it.

    In reality the drag is not that great, it will stimulate tubulent flow a little earlier on but it will make little difference with a long low aspect keel. Sometimes early turbulence prevents laminar separation and vorticity. With fluids it's never simple unfortunately unless you have high aspect foils, then you keep a nice attached flow across the foil and it had better be smooth and acurately manufactured to the design cross sectional shape too.
